Car 91 w/ about 122k miles
Car drives great, no issues. Have the car on a trickle charger when not in use. Just replaced the battery with an Oddesey PC680. When driven the car volt meter stays between 14-15 volts.
Problem:
Even when it is on the trickel charger, when I go to start, it tries to turn over but mainly just clicks. (The engine moves but does not turn over fully).
I can try this about 6 times, click, click, click. Then for some reason, after about 8-10 tries, it turns over just fine, and cranks like it always has. (Like when you have a fresh battery.)
I had some corrosion from a non-sealed battery that got onto the terminal (the reason why I replaced with a SLA battery.) I cleaned the terminal with baking soda and a brush.
What is going on? I can't figure it out. I can take a 30 mile drive, park. come back 8 hours later and sometime it starts right up, and other times it clicks, clicks, clicks, starts....
My first guess is that corrosion has gotten into the main positive wire and is limiting power flow. (just a guess). I have contemplated trying to replace the main + terminal and wire but have not done so.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank in advance.
