Just checking out how honda has their website set up to market the nsx in other countries and to my suprise the base price for an nsx in australia is listed at 245,100 australian dollars which at the current conversion rate of .65 to the US dollar comes out to ~159k. Even if it was suppose to be 145k, it still comes out to 94k.

They do have a nice flash site for the nsx...

prices for nsx's in australia are ridiculous, i love the car but its not worth that much, thats why im buying one in japan for $30,000 aussie dollars and eventually maybe i'll privately import it back to oz ;)

I assume your buying an used one for 30,000 aussie dollars? The car is only 19,500 us dollars? That's pretty good deal there mate. No worries I hope?

definately used ;) i would never buy new, im stingy ;) im spending the same amount just to modify the bloody thing! cheap over here if you know the right people ;) usually with nice aftermarket parts too!

nsxtacey: yeah, prices for a new NSX are unreasonable... especially when you can buy a 2nd hand '93 for Au$60K... up to about Au$100-120K for more recent models. The depreciation alone makes a new NSX not worth buying. :(

however have been led to believe you can bargin New prices down a bit here, unlike in the US... but havent tried it myself (yet! :D)

Is there a major luxury and or import tax?

It's not au is that far from japan. and also, it's the same japanese model im assume since both drive on the left side.

there is some sort of tax involved, but since im staying put here for quite awhile i havent really delved into the importing side of things ( i have a fair idea) the onlyscary thing is they may tax you on the cost of the vehicle in oz not what you paid for it.

japanese cars are tuned for the higher octane petrol so they have to be detuned slightly for our crappier lower octane petrol in oz (im told). new import laws have made it pretty difficult to import cars unless you move to japan and own a car for a year, then the much more lenient private import rules apply ;)

both oz and japan are the same side of the road and right hand drive so this makes importing much easier ;)

ditto to all ajnsx said (although i've never heard of a difference in octane)

One unmentioned problem buying any Honda in Australia is getting parts... for some stupid reason they are never in stock and must always shipped in; meaning 6 week waits are not uncommon.

This hasn't stopped people buying honda though... there are HEAPS on our roads here in Melbourne. *dreamy sigh* i guess the only good thing is honda's are known for their reliability. ho hum.

part problems? thats strange, melbourne is the main supplier too! nordic honda adelaide (graeme) got all my parts for my crx 2 week wait from japan! everything from interior parts, rubber linings and tailights!

nsx parts werent a problem either but they are cheaper in japan (just) so i waited until i moved here ;) time to move down south neo? :) i only ever saw a total of five or so in adelaide (including the one i posted in the gallery section)

I'm in the market for a 94-95 NSX...2nd hand prices are reasonable but range and insurance is a nightmare i've been quoted 2 and half times more than my M3 and my M3 is valued alot more..

it doesnt help when theres only 130 odd in the whole of OZ.

Japanese premium unleaded is 100 RON where Australia is just now getting 98 RON (we had only 95 before). Atleast we're still way ahead of the US for fuel quality :p

aj, can you seriously get an NSX for 30k AUD in Japan? Almost worth moving there :D
Alternatively, Australian rules say that we can import cars without restriction once they're 15 years old. I believe the earliest NSXes are 1990 so we still need to wait a couple of years unfortunately :(
I'm not 100% sure about the tax situation but considering that they can't really value most Japanese cars as they were never sold here I would think they'd have to go by the purchase price in Japan. Otherwise, they'd probably have to go with market price in Japan.

 A couple of others from Australia?!??!?!
I'm not the only one! G'day mates! :p

Too bad our country is so big... an aussie NSX-meet would be awesome. :)

Back to the topic at hand... NSXBOX, if you're looking at reducing the insurance, a mate of mine with a '92 NSX had to install a security alarm. He also insured it for slightly less than it's worth to fall under a limit or something (not too sure about this... i think it was somewhere between Aud$60-70K?) Of course if you've got a 94-95 that would be too cheap to insure it for.

The insurance companies hike the prices because it falls into the "exotic" category. Maybe you if you tell them it's your daily driver they'll be more forgiving. :p

hey ramsey,
nice to see another adelaiden on the board! Im from the dodgy suburb of findon.... ;)

yes you can get an nsx for aus $30,000, it takes some looking and some patience. I have some friends who have conections at auctions and such, so i can get a better deal hopefully ;) i would like a type-r :D best prices on reasonable cars so far have been 1,800,000 yen and 2,000,000 yen

The fact that im replacing every outside body panel bar the roof means outside condition is not a factor! Im also replacing the entire interior, so i dont care about inside condition either, so there are cheaper options for me ;)

I got a quote from Just Car Insurance for a 91 NSX valued at 60k, $2900 comprehensive. And I'm 23 years old, with a dubious driving history, "It was safe to speed in those conditions officer, honest" ;)
But if you're not in Adelaide I suspect that premium would be a lot higher.
Aj, at the moment I live in the dodgier area of Salisbury Downs hehe. Sounds like you have a big project in mind for your future NSX. I'm having trouble just finding a 91 or so NSX here in Aus for around 60k :( Why oh why are NSXes so expensive here compared to the US and Japan. The new one is $245k or so and they wonder why Porsche and even Ferrari outsell them here, bah.
I read that the NSX Type R was not a good handler. Apparently it had excessive understeer but nothing that cant be fixed with a set of Tein coilovers :) Good luck with the NSX hunting AJ :D

Ramsey23: lol... i'm amazed your comments on the Type-R didn't get a reaction. ;)

With regards insurance... i'm surprised they'd give full-comp for only $2900 for a 23 year old (assuming you're male too) w/ a driving history. that's almost good value! :)

If you wait till you're over 25yrs old, apparently the rates halve or something like that... that's discrimination! And sexist against men! :D

haha neo, i'm surprised i didn't get flamed too hehe.
I'm male and I thought that was a pretty good deal too. I found Shannons to be real a**holes but others say they're pretty good. It looks like 25 it will have to be :( I can't find a reasonable NSX here in Aus anyway. When I'm 25, I believe the first of the NSXes will be elegible for import to Aus, no compliance plates required so we'll be able to pick and choose a good one. Must be fate :D
After I first drove an NSX, I was so hooked and it was an auto (I can't stand autos) too. People keep telling me to buy a series 6 RX-7 (3rd gen to you yanks!) or a Supra RZ (Mk3 to you yanks). Everyone thinks I'm crazy to want to buy a 1991 car for 55-60k !
Btw, I just heard they're going to start taking demerit points for speed camera offences in Adelaide
:( :( :( :(
Bye bye license...

a 94' Green NSX in Melbourne with 66K just got sold for $60K..

ramsay- relatively 2nd hand prices of NSX's here in OZ are nothing compared to US.. NSX in the US hold their value well...
I'm buying one soon after I sell M3 in the next few months..

Insurance in Sydney is nightmare...its more than my M3 more like 3x! and its worth half than my bimmer.
