users to switch to mac's... i used search but can't find the thread, so am starting a new one. iirc, the op of that thread wondered if there would be much halo effect from the ipod, ultimately resulting in windows users switching to macs.

this article gives some insight: '05 appears to be ~1M conversions/purchases... count me in the group, as we've added a g5 to our home systems.

with the g5's nice display, i've added a vnc server to my xp laptop that allows me to access/view both systems from the mac. way cool.

I think when the NEW windows come out, it will OWN! I mean OWN anything apple has to offer. There are I belive 6 or 8 differnt kinds of it. Basicly feautures for certain users...Gamers, Video people, Music people, Students...you get the idea.

And what are you basing that on? Many of the 'advanced features' that are in Vista are already in OSX. In fact some of these features have been dropped from Vista simply so that they could release it reasonably close to their deadline. At the same time, Apple is not standing still. By the time Vista is released, you'll find that Apple will continue to have a significant advantage on the OS front.

My expectation is that next year Apple will be gaining a lot of traction, especially as people continue to cope with spyware/adware/malware and the general non-intuitive experience that is Windows.

it's not had a change from "Longhorn" to "Long in the tooth" for nothing....

I was a PC owner all my life until last October... now I will never use another PC.

Mac's do everything I need... better

not as good... but better.

my Powerbook was 1600 bucks. you can have a Mac Mini for 499. an iBook for 999...

how are those outrageous prices? People pay for $2800 PC's also.. hell I did 2 years ago. Now i'm selling it for $800... sucks.

Im sure there have been some people who have made the switch because of the iPod. walk into any apple store and tell me you don't want a 23" apple display, or a mac mini that does as much as those dell-POS towers.

---

and next time I hear the arguement "apple can't run games, it must suck"... im' gonna hurt someone... gaming companies don't excllude apple from their product run because of inability to run the program... most of them are designed on macs... they don't offer them because of the amount of people who use PCs as compared to apple users. It just doesn't make business sense to R&D another version of the game for 3% of the marketplace... If/When apple has 25% or so of people, I can easily see these gamers switching as more games become available.

The thread is here ; in fact it was a poll that I started. Of course the situation changed a bit since then, due to the new iPods (especialy the Nano) and the processor switch from IBM to Intel next year - could change even more (power and price).
