There's a 2001 NSX with 23k miles that i'm looking at, and I want to get a solid idea of what preventive work should be done before I make the seller an offer. I know the timing belt hasn't been replaced, so that's obviously first on the list. The only thing that comes to mind is coolant hoses, spark plugs (according to maintenance schedule they are to be replaced at 6yrs/60k miles whichever is first), and of course whatever is found in a PPI.

What else would you have done?

Thanks,
Vivan

I suspect a lot of that will depend on what a qualified mechanic would find with the car and how finicky you are. This past winter I put about $7k in to the car doing a lot of little things that had been adding up over the past 12 years when I was doing the timing belt/WP. For me, as long as the engine was out of the car, I just hit through the list and got things done. Did I have to do that? No, I probably could have spent a lot less and skipped a few things, but for me that didn't make sense.

what sort of stuff did that entail? I would prefer to do all "engine out" stuff at once, for sure.

I purchased my 2001 a bit over a year ago, with also low mileage (11k). Ended up changing the transmission fluid; engine oil and filter; fuel filter; air filter; replaced timing belt, all other belts; replaced water pump and timing belt cover; adjusted the valves and replaced all the gaskets. All of this was done at the Acura dealer with their certified NSX mechanic (who did all the work on my earlier 1991 NSX). Total bill for the above work was right about $3200. Next thing to do soon is to have the hoses replaced. All was done simply on a proactive basis based upon the age of the car. It is still essentially like new. Good luck - the 2001 model is a pretty good year for the car - very few of them sent this way (thinking about 164 or so).

Thanks Jaybird, very helpful. car in question is a silverstone/onyx as well!

I bought my 01 a few years back and had Larry B to the TB/WP service. He also adjusted the valves and gave the car a once over. He did not find anything else that needed to be replaced. I have not done my hoses yet. It may be something I'll try and do myself depending on how motivated I get. I know they can be a bear to do but I've made a deal with myself not to pay someone to do work that I can do myself. For reference my 01 had about 13,000 miles on it. Welcome to the club by the way(if you get it that is). As stated above the 01 is the lowest production year ever. Rare bird.
