Pre-97 vs 97 models

I was just browsing through the FAQ on the 97 NSX and read that more parts had to be switched a newer type of aluminum to counter the weight generated by adding a new transmission and larger brakes.

The unit body is suppose to weight 462lbs (40% lighter than steel). If this is the case, how come the car still weights close to a Porsche 911 or Corvette. Where is all the weight savings?

If I am not mistaken, a vette weighs ~3300lb; a hell of alot more... a 911 is a smaller car(from standing next to both), but a nsx should still weigh less go figure.

Stereo, seats, engine cover windshield and rear glass are very heavy.
Modifying with replacement performance parts can reduce the car's weight to 2750lbs without any major modifications.
