hello guys,

i'm driving a 91 black nsx over here in europe and was wondering if it is possible to build in the power steering system of a later model; someone already offered me the system of a 04 model? thx

I have a 91 auto with power steering/EPS as standard. This is one of the single most expensive piece of equipment to replace in case of failure.I can re-build the auto transmission. I already replaced the computer once and now on a used rack. The rack is about US$ 4000 and hard to source. The car is almost 18 years old with only 55000 miles. I can do without the power steering but my wife is also a frequent driver. Its quite difficult to drive in HK due to narrow streets and heavy traffic so power steering is useful. I would give it serious thoughts re installing such when U have driven without for years. Even if you are very much mechanically inclined and can handle the instal yourself. just imagine if the rack go south and you need to replace such. BTW, I have tried to re-build the rack but Honda developed such that it is not repairable. Good luck!!

What for? It isn't that hard to steer...just be sure your moving a little bit before you try to turn the wheel.

I'm not sure why you would want it: it is heavier and many here prefer the manual (I know I do), but all that aside, this guy may still have one for sale at what looks like a killer price.

I also want power steering on my 91. After doing all the searching I came to the conclusion that it would be easier and much cheaper to fit a completely different p/s rack from another car, or one of those assist motors on the NSX rack with a programmable p/s ecu.

But with all the work I'm doing at the moment, I have not had time to go further into this. Does someone else want to produce a kit for the NSX?

like this.

like this:

or making a kit like this:
http://images.google.be/imgres?imgu...pas+steering&ndsp=21&hl=nl&sa=N&start=21&um=1

I understand there is even a map-able (programmable) power steering ECU, can't find the link though.

You would only have to find a way to shorten the steering column so this thing would fit in between. There is no room under the dashboard, I've looked, but there is tons of room around the steering rack (every NSX body was made for a power steering rack to be fitted so Honda provided a lot of room) maybe some smart cookie could find a way of putting one of these EPS units in there...

So, if all the nsx-bodies were built to install powersteering, would i have to change the steering column as well or is this also built to install the p/s rack? Living in a very busy town with extremely small parking spaces, i'm just getting totally bored with truying to park it..

sorry, just have a question:

if my car has power steering, what is involved in removing it for weight reduction?

and if I can't remove it, can I disable it for better steering feel?

This topic has been discussed at length before, it is an expensive conversion using NSX parts. Dirk in Germany has the parts, but they will cost you big time. Like maybe 10,000? you need the steering rack, the wiring loom, the ECU, column I don't know...
and if a rack breaks, then it is really expensive to replace.
There has got to be a better way.
When the NSX came out in 1991, it had Electric Power Steering, wow, special.

But it's not special anymore, every econobox has it now. So there has to be a cheaper way in 2009.

I know what you mean about parking, that's why I want p/s too.

apparently removing it is a piece of cake.
some people say the steering response is better with manual steering, but I don't see how considering the p/s is only working when low speed, like lower than 35kph or something.
The front of the car is lighter with the manual steering, but again, can anyone one (except Senna) feel this. I took the spare wheel out of the car and compared it at the Ring, I couldn't feel the difference.

but anyway. send me your power steering if you don't want it, haha.

On Automatics only, until 1994 I believe.
