Powder Coating OEM Calipers ??

I'm in the early stages of planning to remove my OEM calipers and have them broken down to be powder coated. If anyone has done this here's my questions:

1. How did you keep the fluid from draining out of the system while doing the job ?

2. What did you need when rebuilding the calipers, I've checked with my parts guy and he can't find a total rebuild kit ?

3. Do you have any pic of the final result.

I'm going with the powder coating rout so I can get the smooth finish that looks better on the caliper.

Thanks,

John

Let the Brake fluid drain out...it's a good time to replace it. Most will drain out just by leaving the brake lines hanging... I pumped 2 quarts of new fluid in before I began bleeding the brakes.

Daliracing.com sells a rebuild kit for the OEM calipers.

I didn't rebuild mine when I painted the calipers. They only had 40K on them and I haven't had any problems.

I haven't seen any pictures of power coated calipers. I'm sure they look nice though.

Easiest way that I use is to apply a pair of vise grips across the hose. However, you might want to consider this as an appropriate time to flush & replace the old fluid anyway.

You cannot be serious - I replaced my brake hoses & clutch hose with SS parts & in the process completely replaced all the fluid - took ~ 0.5Q for all.

I just had mine painted at a body shop and even had them clear coated as well! Im picking up my car next wed.; so ill post pics some time next week.

I had an extra quart of fluid, so I pumped it through. I figured it was the best way to get every bit of old fluid (and debris) out of the system. Brake fluid is fairly cheap anyway. Not to mention, using speed bleeders seems to use more fluid when bleeding because your by yourself and cannot watch for air bubbles...you just pump and pump.

I'd rather use too much then too little
