Potential transmission damaged?

My left rear wheel hit the curb on an accident last month. The car won't run after the accident (RPM go up but car didn't move!)

The body shop replaced the "Toe Control Arm" and "rear axle" and my car runs find. But I am worry about any potential transmission/suspension damaged, which the body shop may not know? Since the insurance will pay for it, I want everything to be "fixed" before I get my car.

Please!! Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks,

Take your car to a dealer or reputable mechanic and have it checked. This should be easy to do.

There is no way for us to know what might be damaged. The speed and angle of the impact are unknown as is the softness of whatever you hit.

Finally don't trust your bodyshop for any mechanical knowledge. Have it checked by a professional in this area.

Soichiro has it exactly right. In question would be both upper and lower control arms, rear knuckle, ball joints(part of the knuckle), and rear wheel bearing. These are the suspect parts that could also be damaged.

If all these are OK, the probability of the the trans being damaged is very low.

The body shop will take my car to the alignment shop and have it alignment to OEM specs. If the alignment shop don't report any problem, they will assume the suspension/transmission is find?

ac011,

I would request to speak to the alignment shop directly and mention your concerns, so they check these out. Typically, the car will not align if these parts are bent, but let's say a bad bearing is present. It will align, but may go out of alignment later.

If they know your concerns they will pay attention for you. It seems to me you have a few layers of communication, which all could add up to mis-communication!!

Ask to talk to the guy who will align it, it's is the best way to get what you want, and give you piece of mind that the car is OK.

I am sure if you approach it, as a concerned customer, they will accomodate your request.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd still take it to a reputable NSX mechanic even if the alignment turns out fine.
