Possibly looking to purchase a yellow targa

Good evening all,

Let me start by saying I am new here, and arrived through a strange series of events. Last June, I had purchased a ring for my then girlfriend and wanted to get engaged in the most spectacular fashion. I originally wanted to rent GTA Exotics' 360 Modena, but unfortunately it was off the road for repairs. I am of the frugal mindset, so I started coordinating this at 3:00 on Friday afternoon-trying to save a buck did not leave me with many options.

As soon as I started her up I fell in love, it was one of the visceral experiences of my life. Seeing as I had never really driven a mid engine car prior to this I was tender footing her for the first little bit. From Friday until Tuesday morning, I put nearly 3,000km on it mostly along the back roads of Ancaster/Milton/Burlington. Near the end, I was not nearly as apprehensive as when I began.

This brings me to my current situation. For the past 8 months, I have been on the lookout for a suitable steed. Year does not particularly matter, but condition and budget obviously do. Ryan from Sherway Acura and I spent about 15 minutes on the phone talking about their black '98 yesterday, but I decided that I couldn't compromise with the colour. As rare as they are, does anyone know if there are there any '95-01's for sale, or coming up for sale in the near future near the GTA? I am willing to wait for the right one of course, but as you all know-sooner is better :)

To make a long story longer; last July I saw more than 12 NSX's with several Ferrari's and a few Porsches roaring right through downtown Ancaster. Was that event organized here? I saw it as a sign, and it was the final push to get the Missus to come to the dark side. I look forward to spending a lot of time here, and hope to be joining your ranks within the next couple of months.
Thanks!

First welcome Sean,
what price range are you specifically looking to spend on one.. this will enable us to help you further

there weren't many yellow 95-01's (NA1) made, so to pay for the right one may cost you more than your willing to spend

there are not many around.

Ive got an 02
Stu has an 03
theres another 03 that was crashed and came up from the US Dec 04
johnny has a 99?

I think i remember a yellow 2000 at Segals 3 years ago.

Smart man - yellow cars rule!

Welcome!

That event was probably our spring drive organized by Arshad. He does such a great job with it that the ferrari guys get their hair specially blow dried for the event

Those cars you saw were ours. There were probably 100 cars out that day.

Zaks suggestion about posting your budget is a good one.

You can buy my car and I can get the silverstone I'm lusting over now - my car costs exactly as much as a Sliverstone - if you're asking!

I think Ive driven that Black 98. I think that car was originally from Calgary when it was brought here by Segals. AFAIK, it has sat at Segals for over 3 years. I was able to get the service records on it from a dealer in Calgary.

If thats the car - it formerly had its cats removed but otherwise was in great shape. Id have bought it if it were priced better than it was.

Good afternoon all,

I was afraid that they were more rare than I originally anticipated-but someone tells me that it's the fastest colour; isn't it Bio? If yellow NA1's are really that rare, what is your opionion of the black '91 on the trader for $32k now. I have been eyballing that machine for more of a stopgap than anything, just to satiate my urges.

For the budget, I am willing to spend fair market value for a good example, hopefully not exceeding $50k by too much. When we spoke about price the other day I must say that I was a little shocked, I have seen most '98's go for mid fifties on average. Correct me if I am wrong on that.

Bottom line, I am looking for a nice clean unmolested yellow targa NA1, but seeing the rarity for this particular combination I am now willing to bend.

Thanks for the warm welcome and I will hopefully be driving alongside you guys soon.

Red, just for S&G's, what are you asking?

I have a Spa Yellow NSX-T as Dave mentioned but it's a 97.

PM me for more details.

BTW all 97+ NSX's are NA2 cars with the 6 speed and 3.2L engine. Spa Pearl Yellow was first introduced in 97. If you find a yellow pre 97 car it has been re-painted.

If I were in your shoes, unless I were willing to spend a long time waiting for just the right NSX to come along, and be willing to jump on it when it does (ie PAY UP for it so that I dont miss it), I would be looking for quality of car first and color second.

SWbatte is selling his red 93. You will not find a better NSX than his, anywhere (unless you find a yellow one, ANY yellow one, regardless of condition). PM him if you'd consider a red car. Its 100% perfect.

FYI - that black 98 was firm at $72k in 2004. I offered $68k and told him I was buying my 02 if he passed. He passed over the difference. I walked and bought my car, which was really the one that I wanted, the next day.

At risk of losing Sean as an NSX owner, I would buy his car if I were you.

Stu wants $90k for his car. I however will accept $80k for mine, with the supercharger and all. Fastest NSX east of Alberta!

Johnny, I want your brakes if you sell your car. We can tranfer mine to your car if needed. On second thought, your car doesnt move hardly ever. Clearly they work too well.

Fire sales on parts off your car to get it down to budget!

I've been thinking about selling my car for a few months now but the price difference to move into an exotic is way to high for me right now. I don't want to sell the NSX and then not be able to get something I would enjoy.

I've been considering bringing a 997 Turbo from the US which will not be an issue with RIV but will I like it better than the NSX from a looks perspective.

If Stu is asking $90K, Dave @ $80K, Mine should be worth $70K with all the mods. Or I can put it back to stock. Any thoughts on what my car stock with 63,000kms is worth retail? All service is up to date including timing belt and water pump done in June 2007 at 61xxx kms.

The Black 98's asking price is $69,900 but they will entertain offers.

i want some parts too if your demodding

I think $50,000 is still a little too low to find the one your looking for
Yellow is too rare of a color
but good luck on your findings

Thanks for the input all. Like I said, I am a little flexible on the price and while I would prefer to have one sitting in my garage right away I am not afraid to wait.

As for the '93 Bio, I don't know, red really isn't my colour but if it is as good as you say, it might be worth my while to check out. For those of you who have had both the targa and coupe models, which one do you prefer and why? I realize the coupe will be stiffer around the bends and on the track, but I like the wind running through my (lack of) hair. :)

The red one BioBanker is referring to is Seans here in London. Sean and I are 5 min away from each other. His is actually a 92. We both had 92's.
Seans car is in deed very very clean!!!

As in my avatar to the left, I upgraded from the 92 to a 02 (just like BioBanker's, but of course a better colour!!!)

I could go on for a long time about the differences between the cars, but its all be typed out here at one time or another.
I do miss the coupe. Lighter, stiffer. It just seemed more punchy compared to the 02. Some have attributed it to the added weight on the 02, but I'm not totally convinced. The 02 does seem like a more refined ride though.

Anyway, just wanted to 2nd the opinion that Sean's car is worth a look.
He has had it for a while, and nothing goes untouched. If anything has ever needed doing to it, he has had it done.

Don't discount the early year cars. If well maintained, they are still a very nice car. Think Aluminum. No rust.

Sean pipe up here and say something!!!

Brad

Welcome aboard Sean! The cars passing through Ancaster were indeed part of the exotic car run I organized last summer -- lots of fun!

As others have mentioned Seans car is immaculate. I've seen the Segal car, and it's very clean, but overpriced IMO.

Johnny's ride is SWEEET... if he's going to sell it, I'd love to see it remain in Toronto!

Targa vs Coupe -- the other thing to consider is that the price delta between a 95 and a 97 isn't that huge anymore. A 97+ will get you the 6 speed tranny with more enjoyable gearing and more oomph in the power department. Not sure what the situation with connecting up after market EMS to an OBD2 these days is though, in case you're thinking of eventually going the Turbo route.

but brad - i think there is a big difference between a 6sp 02+ targa and an 5sp pre97. There is supose to be a difference between a 97 6spd and an 02+ 6spd even.

I bet youre right when you say that you notice a difference between your older auto coupe and newer auto targa. Same engine in a heavier car=you should feel that. 02+ engines in 6spd cars are said to be type r engines (unsubstantiated).

So when you say that you miss the punchyness of the older coupe, I think that you'd be saying the reverse if you were talking about manuals. I know that my car stock was noticably faster than the stock NA1s that I drove.

Welcome, and good luck looking, that's the best part.

Like the others have said, Sean car is great, very well maintain NSX...all services up to date, car is A1.

Johnny's car would be a great buy too, with all the goodies, 97 , 6SP,
3.2L and even Yellow (if that is what you want)...it will be more expensive than Sean's car, but you get so much more.

Coupe vs Targa...

You can't beat driving with the Roof off on the Targa on a nice Sunny day(unlike what we are having today). With the NSX-R chassis Bar, there is NO difference between the Coupe and Targa.

Hope to see you and your car soon.

Bram

again id like to attest for Sean's car.. its immaculate
and i may be biased .. but red surely is the best color!

Sean, if your demodding your wheels (Fikse) Im interested! pm me a price.

Good evening all,

Thanks for all the tips and advice so far, it has really helped me out. I also appreciate that everybody was friendly enough to not yell at me when I assumed NA1->NA2 was split with the facelift, 1,000 pardons :).

Anyhow, I had a look at the 1998 sitting at Sherway, and although it was lovely, it really wasn't what I am looking for. I prefer a louder colour, and as far as I am concerned that price is too steep for a car that has been sitting the better part of a few years, regardless of the low miles.

I would be interested in going to see Sean's car (provided he spells his name that way, otherwise-not interested!) but don't know what his contact information is. Could someone supply that for me?

Like I have said before, I am antsy to find a car, but would also like to wait for the right one to come along. On that note, I am really enjoying the community so far, thanks for taking me in!
