My car is at the dealer for some other work but on their general inspection they determined that the positive battery cable should be replaced. They have quoted a price on this of almost $700.00. Does anyone have any experience doing this, and if "yes"...How hard can this be? Is there any write-up for this repair on this forum? My NSX is a 1999 model. Thanks for any assistance.

Cable lists at about $150, this runs from the front to the back of the car. Why is it bad? Never had one go bad. Typically the connector gets stretched, and although I have not done it, I have seen many replace this battery terminal connector and be done with it;).

I saw corrosion on my cable when i installed my battery tender. I just cut a little bit of the end off, restripped it and went with audio cable connectors. Once a year i take them apart and clean. I doubt you need a new cable.

I purchased the car last August. The first thing that I did was install a battery tender connector. I can't remember what condition the terminal connector was in at that time, but I am sure if it was corroded that I cleaned it. I don't really know what it looks like at this point and have decided to not have it fixed until I can take a look at it. I am sure that it has some degree of corrosion, how much is another question. The report that I got from the dealer just said that it is corroded, they suggest replacement. The car was transported in due to failure of the clutch slave cylinder. I was not there when they inspected it. I got it checked in with them and went home, they could not immediately take a look at it. They sent me a report the following day. They are not hammering me to have it fixed and have been open to me picking up the car after the slave and master cylinders are fixed. I agree with both of your methods of repair and am happy that there are other options. Without being able to look at it I was unsure of exactly what i'm dealing with. I'm just weighing my options and appreciate the benefit of your experiences. I have 2 MR2's and the battery cables on them are pretty short on extra cable to work with.

Thanks again for your input, I am significantly relieved.

Just an FYI - Cup of water, pour in some baking soda, dunk connector, clean as can be;).........

Hey Kelly, I should have guessed you would have an answer for this. Didn't you say that you are an electrician? I have seen these audio cable connectors mentioned in other places. Can you post a picture of one? I have no idea what they are and I can't tell from the pic that you posted. Where can I get them?

where did you get that hold down from?

If you're already short on cable since sometimes there's not much slack they make some beefy extensions that you can connect and insulate. I bought mine I think at advanced auto for the 2gauge wire to a top post mount. They also have side post mounts and a few other options.

If you don't need to replace the entire cable this is the best option. If you go to like pepboys or advance auto they should have what I'm talking about. Although I did have to call 5x stores in my area to find a 2 gauge compatible cable that was top mount since most of them were side mount.

It should have on one end a top mount ring terminal. On the other end I truthfully forget but there's either a heavy duty rubber thing that slides over where you connect the new cable and old cable together. Or it came with heavy duty shrink tubing. There is also a wire or two that's maybe 12 gauges or so to connect any other accessories that I just left as they were if I remember.

It was semi annoying to find though and I can't find a link online to even show you...
