Porsche Caliper Question

A buddy of mine is ugrading the brakes on his 2003 GT-2 and he offered me the calipers and rotors. Does anyone know if they will work on our cars?

Armando if you find a way to get those monsters ro fit let me know as well. I have been trying to find a way for a few weeks now. The ceramic brake setup would be very nice to have on the NSX.
 
Ill be getting the set this weekend so I can see how much has to be done, I was just wondering if anyone had made this journey before

Hey Armando,

Nelson Landa, from Florida also, did this a few years back. I remember reading about it. I think there was some information on the NSX Florida website also regarding this. I think now the brakes are on Ben Beckert's monster red NSX? He might be able to provide you with some information also.

As you may know I have P-brakes as well but I would not recommend ceramic brakes for the X as long as you don't also make serious changes to the rest of your brake system.

To simplify the issue: While usual steel discs take and store a lot of the heat the ceramic discs don't. The generated heat is going mainly through the pads and caliper to the brake lines, fluid and cylinders. Mov'it (the guys who adapt P-brakes for the NSX here in Germany) stopped distributing ceramic brakes also for this reason.

I did not realize the Mov it breaks were the same as the Porsche breaks. What do you think of their performance? Is it worth the price?
 
Officialy they are not allowed any longer to say that the Brembos are Porsche brakes (or do you say "breaks" in U.S. nowadays??), they are marketing them as "Mov'it" brakes.

I would recommend them especialy for track use with competition or slick tires and advanced drivers. You can run a 2 day track event with hundreds of laps (always hammering the brakes 'til ABS kicks in) nearly without a fading (the tires are the limit, don't expect a shorter brake distance per se). That gives you a lot of trust into the car's abilities because it's more predictable.

And: It's very easy to change the pads during an event - with only a bit experience you can do that in 5-10 minutes per side including the removing of the rim. New pads and discs are cheaper than the Honda OEM parts (at least here in Germany) and they last much longer (assuming the same brake habits).

Additionaly I recommend some kind of air ducting to the brakes to reduce temperatures.

For the price I would estimate that this investment pays off at least after 2 track seasons (but my subjective impression is: It pays off at it's first track day).
 
Looks nice.

But it is interesting that the dust/heat shield was not removed!

Since cooling the rotors is key in track driving, was the shield left by design, for a purpose ......?

As the max disc temperatures are now way below 500 degrees Celsius (stock can rise over 600) there is no need to remove the shields. As you may see with a quick search on Prime removing the shields has some downsides.
 
So then Wolfgang I assume that the Porshe calipers (Brembos)are exactly what Mov-It ues for our application. That being true the only thing I would need are the brackets from them then. Do you know if they sell those seperate from their kit? I tried getting the info from them but I cant find an email address for them.

Unless specially ordered, the GT2 does not come with ceramic brakes.

If you cannot adapt them to fit your NSX, I would be interested in them for my Porsche.

The only people that use the term "breaks" when referring to car "brakes" are people that are not using the right word for the "devices that stop a car" ;) Thanks for the correction.

Just to clarify. We could basically purchase a set of used Porsche turbo calipers/rotors off of ebay or something like this. Then we purchase the necessary adapters from Mov it. Then we can have these installed at a dealer? Or ourselves?

As I wrote before you may call ultimategarage (link posted above) and ask them - I have no clue how difficult the mounting could be. As a technicaly disabled like me I would let the experts do it.

I also run Porsche Big red from 993 Turbo. This caliper is gigantic. Bigger even than stoptech. The one comes with the GT2 is monoblock caliper and even thicker. Good luck finding wheels to fit over this babies. I have to run 8mm spacers with my forgeline that clear Comptech brembo brakes. I can't imagine using the GT2 brakes would need.

I dont have the calipers yet as as my buddy is still waiting on his BBK to do the exchange, although once I get them, if I need to add spacers over 10mm I will probably just use the calipers as paper weights.
