Polishing '95 oem 7 spoke rims

I'm thinking of polishing the surface of my '95 oem 7 spoke wheels, anything I should look out for? Can it be done? Is it an expensive and difficult process?

Some say the polished surface will get dull easily and need to be repolished, true?
