Poker tables

Reading my mind?

For the last few days I have been looking at a plethera of poker tables. Yours going to be a combo table, used mainly for dining? I'm going with a dedicated poker table, but of the hold'em variety. Oh, I do like that second one. Did you check A.E. Schmidt on Olive?

In my spare time I build custom furniture, mostly for myself but I have done a few pieces for others. I am currently building a hold'em table for myself. The playing surface will be speed cloth with WPT graphics. The boarder around the felt will drop down about one inch and be 3-4" wide. In this area I will have inlays encapsulated in epoxy. These inlays are pictures of my friends and family, Vegas and Atlantic city poker chips from casinos, dice sliced in half, keys from past cars, and other gambling items. The project is on hold as I am still trying to find an original NSX key. There will also be a outside padded rail with cup holders and individual chip trays for 8. I am incorporating back lighting to make looking at the cards easier. Total dimensions will be 84" long ~36"-40" wide. If I knew how to post a picture I could show off some of my past work. I just finished a solid oak hi-fi cabinet for myself that came out pretty nice. If you guys were interested I might consider mass producing a few tables. I am not sure how quick you need one. I know the quality I want to put in mine will take no less that 3 months if I give it some attention or 3 weeks if I do nothing else but the table.

Actually, I need one primarily for poker, and could use a second 2-way for the eat-in kitchen/dining. The two places noted above would be for the game room where I can use the larger size, but a top is still good for other games.

There seem to be very few Texas hold'em tables still, and no nice wooden ones. However Beach, one of the better multi-purpose manufacturers, will release some this spring. But I think I'll go with a 60" round or octagonal since they are large enough for 8 without being too cramped.

Went to Schmidt the other day but nothing there I wanted. (Just couldn't pull the trigger on that Harley model. ) Watson's carries Beach and one other and keep a variety on the floor. Chair prices are all over the place, ranging from reasonable to ridiculous, with the reason for the difference not always evident as it is with the tables.

Wow - that sounds like the ultimate hold'em table! As for me, I was mostly looking at it from a functional standpoint, but something like what you are making could sway my decision. Actually, I was thinking of making my own, but not nearly to the fit-n-finish degree that you are doing. My poker room is our three season room, so I was leaning (heavily) towards something that could be broke-down and taken to the basement. But, you have me thinking. ;) E-mail me any pics you have and I will host them for posting (Sending PM with e-mail address).

Sounds like fun. I fancy myself something of a craftsman as well, although that mostly dates back to high school shop. :) I considered doing my own poker table, or at least a top, then came back to my senses. I don't have the time, space, or equipment right now. Interesting offer to build something for us, but I think I'll probably stick with a traditional shape large enough to handle 8. However, I would like to see your table when you get it done.
