Clarkson said pretty much the same on Top Gear. He felt that Porsche somehow intentionally crippled the Cayman so that it would not better the more established (and more expensive) 911 series.

The engine is in the right place.

When will Porsche learn the engine is not to hanging behind the rear axle. The technology and money Porsche has spend over the years to make that design work is incredable. The 911 in an increadable car. Now put some of that technology into a mid engine car and they will offer phenomenal cars.

When I have attended Porsche driving events all the racing instructors admit that the given the same power the Cayman would outperform the 911 but the flagship cannot be undermined after 40+ years.

Hopefully, a strong success of the Boxster Spyder twould pave the way for a long overdue Cayman RS model.
