OK I just got my car registered and can actually go for a drive, but before doing that even I tore the console apart to install the SOS short shifter. Now the car is all apart and I can't drive until this thing goes on but I am not sure I am doing it right.

Please, someone look at the pics below and tell me if this looks remotely correct. How far is that blue block supposed to go? I could only get it on far enough by hand to install the nut... 2 or three threads... then I tightened the nut and could hear the thing moving, scraping on the cast shifter end as it moved... its that tight...

before, that little set screw did not even reach the metal part... now its on, but there is still a "gap" between the cast part of the car and the back of the "U" in the block. Should there be no space? if I tighten it more I am afraif of stripping the nut or bolt. I can try hammering it down? Can someone help?

Yes, the fit should and needs to be tight. Due to the casting irregularities, you may need to file the casting ridges down slightly in order to have the stalk drop fully into the shifter block.

By the way, feel free to call us any time you need tech support with a product we sell.

Have fun with the new car!

take care,

OK I'll file it and make sure its in all the way. Otherwise it looks right?

Thanks for the fast response Chris!

me too, after I hammered the !@#$%^& out of it.

I did this install the other day. I used a nut (washerless) to pull the block all the way in, then removed it and reinstalled the original nut. Once in place I tightened the set screw. At first I thought it was a little too tight, but as Chris mentions, it should be:).

This shifter kit ONLY shortens the throw front to rear and not the gate distance left to right. I like it:).

be very careful to tighten the tiny nut and bolt tight enough as mine fell off during a drive. Luckily I was in 1st gear and tried to shift to 2nd and the shifter went limp. I knew right away it was the short shifter that fell off. Just a small heads up.

Sounds like a little non hardening Locktite might be the way to go here to keep things from loosening up.
