Can anyone share how they were able to remove their 04 or 05 shift knob? After reading several threads/posts on the matter--mostly Na1s/pre-04 NA2s, and personal attempts, the knob refuses to budge. Short of using a blow torch and the jaws of life, can anyone kindly give me some pointers? Mind you, I easily removed the knobs off my '96 and '03 in the past, so this pertains specifically to te '04/'05 knob. Thanks!

On the newer round style shift knobs, the shift knob has a locknut at the base. I agree you may just have to turn it harder, but it may be really locked on there. I have not done this personally, but I think you can lower the shift boot and loosen it with an open end wrench. If the shift boot will not allow access to the nut, you may need to remove the console to get to the nut, but that would be the last resort:).

Lets hope Chris NSX has the solution:D

Thanks, gentlemen. I will do a few biceps curls and try again. I previously used that tacky material for opening jars to protect the leather and spare the skin from my hand (the force applied actually started to rip the skin from my palm!). I did not want to force the issue and damage the knob, hence the thread request. Wish me luck.....
