I recently had the fluid in my fairly newly installed 6-speed transmission changed using the new Acura Gen III MTF (the one with the white cap). I think the installer had used Redline after the reassembly (I had the 4.23's and JDM input shaft installed in a new tranny) and after 3000 miles my transmision was still balky and felt as though I could beat the synchros if I shifted too quickly, it just didn't enjoy changing gears. This new fluid is great and the change it has caused in my driving pleasure was worth every penny spent to do so.

Just changed my transmission fluid last summer.

Thanks for the heads up on the new Honda fluid. I've been using a 2 part/1 part cocktail of GM Friction Modified/GM Synchromesh for the last 100,000 miles or so and but I am actually giving the new Amsoil fluid a go right now. With over 200,000 miles my tranny has no issues. I'll try out the Honda goo next since it looks like clutch #3 needs to go in after 76,000 miles.

Rob put in Synchromesh and friction modifier in my 5 spd tranny where before was notchy, didnt like to shift into 2nd or 3rd under full load... Now its very smooth and a joy to drive!

I had the Honda MTF 3 in my transmission before and it made almost no difference!

changing the tranny fluid regularly is definitly a good word of advice.

much easier to change the fluid then the tranny. no to mention much cheaper also.

happy motoring

Does anyone have the honda p/n for this MTL?

I bought 3 litres at the Acura dealership:
p/n 08798-9031C. (black cap on the bottle)

08798-9031A Acura MTF with white cap (not Honda)

Honda and Acura have the same product, remove the "A" from the part number and you have Honda MTF. Same White cap, same new formula:). I have used about 3 cases so far, and for the 12+ NSX's I have put it in, I have seen good results, most cars do shift smoother, 5 or 6 speed.

i get it form my local honda dealer, you should be able to get it too.

everyone enjoy your weekend

How complicated would this be for a DIY?

Not complicated at all. If you remove the driver rear tire, you can fill the transmission oil from the wheel well. You can see when the MTF just start to flow out from the fill hole. I used a level with a towel on the spolier to make sure the car is relatively level when filling the MTF. My engine cover was not open during the transmission oil change. No mess on the garage floor. BTW, the drain plug may be really tight.
