Playing with a couple of gopros at CMP last month

Please forgive the sloppy apexes....although that's one benefit of doing this: I can see when I'm like two expletive feet from the apex into T12, lol.

(Racer Excuse: Tires had heat cycled well past their prime sometime in 2012, I took them off, tried some nittos, hated the nittos, put the worn-out star-specs back on and went just as quick on bricked dunlops as I had on new nittos.)

As a side note, I wouldn't mind suggestions on making slightly more entertaining track videos (while still actually illustrating what goes on for a full lap as opposed to cutting around all over the place to where you can't tell what's happening).

Pretty cool video. Are you using an external mic for sound?

I get that you don't want to do a movie clip with tons of cuts, but if your intention is to capture what you're doing on the track then I'd use the second GoPro somewhere inside the car to show what you're doing as the driver. Personally I do like the videos with the wild cuts hahah but this is a solid video for what you intended.
 
No remote mic actually, just an open-back housing for one of them (hence the "white out" at higher speeds). I would like to get a "skeleton" housing that would allow me to run a remote mic though.

I've joked around/toyed with the thought of doing the "foot cam" and I've made some other videos where it's a PIP with one view facing me so I can at least see what I'm doing/where I'm looking to make sure I'm looking far enough ahead.
 
I think the way BMI does their footage is great, foot cam, tach cam, in-car cam.

This may be a little much. But I'd recommend the use of picture in picture. Have an in-car cam (so we can see you, the wheel, your legs, and your shifts) as mentioned above, but also have a highlight box or something where you could switch the feed to either PS wheel or DS wheel depending on the corner etc.

I watched a few of you videos with footage of the in-car cam and the cam of your face, and I think only the driver gets the most out of that haha.

Also, it's been brought up in another thread that the best track audio is realized when an external mic is placed (and taped down) in the trunk! This picks up the exhaust note quite well AND avoids the annoying wind noise...

In case you are tempted, I'd stay away from adding music to the footage. Lets hear the engine. If I want a soundtrack, I'll just throw on my own tunes in the background.

The biggest thing in my opinion is the mic in the trunk, NO ONE likes wind noise.

Keep it up, I found myself watching a few of your videos and would love to see more.

Agreed with the above ideas; PIP with a foot cam I personally think is pretty cool.

Jaja, I hear you on the music. I've only ever done that as an intro, or where the other audio was unsuable/broken/or to try and drown out where I had a lot of wind noise at high-speed (and then tried to keep the volume low enough to hear the engine at low-speed). If I can find a way to rig it, I will try the mic in the trunk. I've found on the NSX a camera stuck to the glass behind the seats actually doesn't get much wind noise at all, may a little buffetting over 100mph, but that's a minority of time on almost any track.

I'll keep playing and see if I can rig up a foot-cam. The problem is the GoPros are not so great in low-light from what I've seen, so that might be an issue.

Just put one of these guys next to the dead pedal :tongue:.

I'd imagine its awkward to get a camera down there/find a suitable mounting point.
Maybe someone who has managed a foot-cam can chime in and post their FOOTage hehe.
