I already bought synthetic oil, or does acura already supply it?

i heard you have to replace the washer neat the oil pan everytime u change, it, will acura supply that?

and everyone says not to buy after market oil filters, best is to use OEM honda filters?

It's pretty easy to change the oil yourself. The same as any other car if you have done it before. Read about the coolant fiasco.

Use the Honda Oil filter and get a new crush washer for the drain plug.

yep its realllly easy to change the oil on the NSX's.. just get the OEM oil filter..a washer.. and some synthetic oil.. the dealer here does a oil change for the NSX for around 70 bucks but that doesnt include synthetic. Its nowhere near as difficult as a porsche.. one guy pulled in in a new 911 TT and man that was some weird stuff.. it had 2 oil filters.. one in the dash?!! hahaha oh well.. be glad the NSX is really "friendly" when it comes to sinple work

While you can indeed do it yourself, there are lots of reasons why folks go to the dealer - time, availability of equipment (lift, jacks, jackstands), the need to dispose of the old oil, and the fact that it's usually a very messy job.

Now, let's try answering the original questions, for a change.

That depends on the dealer. And some dealers may stock 5W30 synthetic oil, but not synthetic in the 10W30 which is recommended for the NSX. You can call your dealer ahead of time and ask them.

My dealer does not stock 10W30 synthetic oil. When I ask, they tell me that they can either send someone to the store for it, or I can bring my own. I bring my own; it's better for me (no markup from store prices, and I can buy it when it's on sale) and it's better for them (no need to send their people out). Total cost of the oil change and filter ends up around $40-50.

Yes.

If you ever decide to change your own oil, buy the crush washers at the same time as you buy oil filters, and tape a crush washer to each filter.

$70 for oil change. RIIIPPP !!
My local dealer only charges $25. I change my own now though since it cost about $15.

Be careful with the pan gasket. The previous owner had the oil change done at an Acura dealership, and Mark Basch said it was improperly installed with silicone. It should be installed dry I believe.

For an oil change, the oil pan shouldn't have been removed in the first place.

Same here i go to curry or island acura and they only charge about 30 bucks for an oil change .... more if u want synthetic......i have never asked but for those of you that bring your own oil do they give u a break on the price ??

I doubt it. An OEM filter is around $11 and five quarts of oil is going to cost you between $5 (for no-name dino oil) and $20 (name brand synthetic on sale). And if you're smart you will need at least $200 in tools - from a good torque wrench to the Honda filter removal tool. You will spend at least a half hour on the job - what do you value your time at?

Shouldn't be that much and I can do it myself faster then going to the dealer, waiting, and coming back.

Just buy a $20 set of ramps (or use the factory jack and buy a $20 torque wrench), a $5 generic oil filter tool, a case of filters/washers from Eric or another good discount parts guys, a $5 plastic oil pan to catch the oil, and 5L Mobil one containers ($20 each)

For me it is the time savings, fun, and knowing it will be done exactly right (i.e. fill the filter before you install it takes a couple mins as the level keeps going down, lubing the filter gasket, etc.). Also buy a Liquid Vac if you want to save a lot of the mess, and wrap a plastic bag around the "cool" filter when you remove it so that the oil doesn't go everywhere.

However - many dealers are good about checking other things that you may not regularly look at (brake pads, tires, other fluids, etc). If you are not checking these things this would be a significant added benefit for you.

couple days ago i bought filter and washer, cost $15
