For those who wanted to see the car shod w/ new wheels and rubber.

Closer...

Closer front...I'll be running sans fender liner but w/ some underbody spray.

Closer back...rear brakes look puny.

3/4 view...w/o frontlip spoiler. As a city driver I run w/o it so my chances of scraping driveways decreases to 50%.

The wheels are Volk TE-37's in 17x8.5, +50mm front and 18x10.5, +45 back. Tires are Ecsta V700's in 235/40 front and 285/30 rear. A few shakedown runs indicated a bit of tire rub up front. Taking out the inner fender liners solved that problem.

And talk about grip...yowza!

Wheel and tire weights from this setup, though significantly larger, vs. the stock setup are almost exactly the same. So thus far, I've added quite a bit more lateral traction w/o increasing my unsprung weight. The only way I could have bettered that is getting this much lateral traction and decreasing my unsprung weight. If someone comes out with a wheel significantly lighter then maybe I'll switch the Volks to city use, like in a few years. I think the better bet would be that a tire manufacturer makes a lighter tire. Maybe the RA-1's weigh lighter than the Ecsta's?

Thanks to Mark Johnson of Dali Racing for not only helping me get these wheels found, repowdered, and sent, but also for putting up with my incessant emails. Gracias Markus!

did you have to remove you front spoiler because its to low with it. Is it harder to drive in parking lots with the wider tires. Were are the center caps? The wheels do look great. Do they come in white?

Zuerst, no you can't hump it. Well, how much money have you got? I may need some more room in my tire budget.

MiamieNeSex, I've got the center caps but will run on the track w/o them. The Volks are for the track and my '91-93 wheels and A022's are for the street. No bling bling factor here.

cpmoran, yeah, I removed the front spoiler cuz I was scraping on everything. And I got tired of going diagonally over speed bumps and into my driveway. It gets tired real fast.

FuryNSX, not rubbing anymore!

Ponyboy,
FYI: If you dropped the front to 215/40/17 then you won't rub.... That is the most common 17" set up... that way you can keep the inner fender liner... ya know, it's there for a purpose....

I'm sure I could but since I'm not rubbing anymore it's a moot point. Please remember that this primarily a track car. If I did the 215's I wouldn't have the amount of lateral traction I want, the wheel size wouldn't be ideal - too wide. The same scenario would apply for the rears as well. To keep the balance as neutral as possible, I'd have to go with a thinner rear. This size combo has worked well for people who track their NSX and I'm looking forward to it. I'll be spraying under the body panels with some undercoat spray so the purpose of the fender liners will be taken care of as well.

Hey there Pony,I'm like you, after some analysis if something makes sense I try it,but I must warn you that the underspray idea sounds good but dosn't protect well enough!I withstood 3 painful reverse dings(which were fixed beautifuly by dent wizard)and put the liners back in.FWIW.

Sup Doc, thanks for the advice. Did you incur the dings at a track event or daily driving? I'm going to try it out for a bit and if I get some dings, I may reinstall the liners. Thanks again.

I was driving to an event at the Glen,I spent most of my down time transfixed on those friggen dings!I'm assuming your rubbing is like mine against the inner wheel well rather than the fender ,if so the liners don't need to be off,ie. their removal won't alleviate this.

if it is rubbing on the inner fender - hit it with a hammer, that works everytime.

Even though I haven't experienced inner fender rub yet, today I bought a sledge hammer to wack away it if it should become an issue. I call it my BUFF hammer.

B-52 pilots should know what that means.
