Perfect way to turn 50k

Well I have been creeping up on 50,000 miles for some time now. I bought the car back in 97' with 20k miles and hoped to have a lot more miles on it by now - but such is life. Anyway the car is now my daily driver and I take it everywhere - rain or shine. No covered parking at work (thank God for the Dali heat shield), no rain days, even saw some snow this year!

Anyway - my 4 year old son and I came back from YMCA swim lessons today and my wife had taken my other kids to Wal-Mart for some new clothes. I asked my son - how would you like to play hooky and go see some Ferrari's running at Gateway International Raceway and hook up with some other NSX owners/cars?!? You can guess the answer as the chips don't fall far from the block.

So on the way down we are jamming tunes and doing our secret handshake knowing there might be heck to pay later. I just happened to notice we were turning 50,000 miles on what is known by my son as the "fast car" and by my daughter as "daddy's office" (she thinks that is where I spend my 10 hours per day away during the week).

Anyway - I felt this was the PERFECT way to hit such a milestone. Even my 4 year old son has started begging me to keep the car till he can drive it someday and wants to help me shift the car. He also tells me to "put my knee down" since that means making the car go fast! What a great car, what great memories, and what great friends/fans I have met through the years.

My wife still wonders why I am so obsessed with the car after all these years. What can I say? I can't justify it for the life of me. I just like being around others who are as obsessed as I am about this thing.

Apparently it is hereditary too and it is not just gender specific! My son may have to fight it out with my other daughter and son for the keys!

;)

Great story! I've saved a copy of your post for when I get married and have kids... just in case the future wife ever thinks about selling our NSX. :)

Nice story, matteni. I've got a 3-1/2 yr old son who rides with me in the NSX. He's just big enough to sit in a booster seat. Every weekend he asks "can we go for a drive in your NSX car?". He says when he's older he'll buy one... but his will be blue with red stripes. :)

That is truly a wonderful story! I hope that I can share that with my son in the future.
