Pearl Harbor Movie (2001) is on ABC right now, and its been a tearjerker for me!

I have seen the older Toro Toro Toro movie, and have seen some other documetaries, but this one has done a great job of making my eyes well up. Its just amazing how much of a blow the USA took when the Japanese attacked us by suprise, and how we came back up and defeated them.

Dont get me wrong here either, I own a Nsx, and have been to Japan twice, and love their culture, cars, and women. However, this is one time period in which I dont care much about the Japanese, and it makes my American pride swell.

Has anyone else felt very emotional over Pearl Harbor movies, or this Pearl Harbor movie in particular ?

Cory

Ps, I have also been to Hiroshima where the USA attacked in 1945 with the first unleashing of a nuclear attack as well.. So I have seen both sides of the beginning, and ending of WW2

Pearl Harbor....

Well Kate Beckinsale was the best thing in the movie.
As for the rest, I think Trey Parker summed it up pretty well...

The End of an Act

I miss you more than Michael Bay missed the mark,
When he made Pearl Harbor.
I miss you more then that movie missed the point,
And that’s an awful lot girl.
And now, now you've gone away,
And all I'm trying to say,
Is Perl Harbor sucked and I miss you

I need you like Ben Affleck needs acting school,
He was terrible in that film.
I need you like Cuba Gooding needed a bigger part,
He's way better then Ben Affleck.
And now all I can think about is your smile,
And that shitty movie too,
Perl Harbor sucked and I miss you

(Interlude)

Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies.
I guess Perl Harbor sucked,
Just a little bit more then I miss you.

Other than the mushy love parts, I dont understand why so many dont like the movie.

"Pearl Harbor: The Love Story" It was an awful movie.

And, it was an atomic bomb not a nuclear one.

I agree, I wanted to see more of a documentary, not a love story, and I think thats whats made so many people out there not like this movie.

Yes, your right, it was atomic. Thanks for pointing out.

I much much much prefer "Band of Brothers." Didn't mind Pearl Harbor but it certainly wasn't a tear jerker for me.

I like not just Kate Beckinsale (love her since Shooting Fish) but the story line as well. Our country use to be invaded by Japanese troop before but I have no hard feeling against them. If someone had to be blame it would be the leader.

I cried more watching Bill and Teds Excellent adventure. Pearl Harbor did nothing for me. War Movies that did make me feel "patriotic":

Glory
The Alamo (the old one)
Dances with Wolves
Last of the Mohicans

I may also have jerked a tear or two dunring one of those cheesy cold war era movies (cant remember names)

I second that. BoB is absolutely brilliant. I felt the whole love-triangle-thing really spoiled Pearl Harbour. BoB has raw emotion that i think even men can relate too whereas PH is scripted mush. :p

Then again... that's my opinion... watch whatever moves you.

btw, beautiful photo of Hiroshima.

........."WOLVERINES" sob, sob, wipe away, sob, sob???

I cried too, but only because directors continue to pay Ben Affleck to have no talent whatsoever. If there was ever a "famous for being famous" male-equivalent to Paris Hilton, Ben Affleck fills the bill. He is wretched. He is exceeded in his unwatchability only by Adam Sandler.

yawwnn.......

oh about the movie, you might want to actually go visit Pearl Harbor in person, I just went there a month ago. about the tear jerker, it was more like beef jerkie for me.

Does nausea qualify as an emotion?

(If so, then yes I was deeply emotionally impacted by this movie.)

that movie is another fine example of American Propoganda.

Yeah, right.

Propaganda coming from Hollywood, which is well-known for it's pro-USA/military stance.

I think the movie took a lot of flack for being historically inaccurate and taking too many liberties beyond what really happened. It's basically a fictional dramatization based on real events, and if you watch it with that in mind, then it's not so bad. The liberties taken by the film makers (when compared to what really happend) are quite substantial though.

That said, Tora, Tora, Tora is often seen as the pinnacle of the Pearl Harbor movies. Much better in my opinion.
