Passenger Window Wont Go Up

My drivers window switch will take the passenger window down but not up. The passenger switch works both ways.

Any idea why? Is this a DIY?

Re: Passenger Window Won't Go Up

Since the passenger's switch works, I would expect the driver's switch is bad. You just have to remove the door panel and replace the switch if that's the problem.

Sounds like a bad switch on the driver's door or an open wire. The fact that the passenger side switch works normally means the regulator is ok. The window switch information and troubleshooting guide can be found in the online service manual in the FAQ section beginning on page 23-261

Isn't there a way to get to the switch without removing the entire door panel? Doesn't the plastic trim piece come out?

I looked at the service manual and it seems this piece comes out but I don't see exactly how to do it and don't want to break something.

So the only way to get to these switches is from behind the door? Why does the manual show the plastic housing of the vents and window switches on the door poping out?

On the front side (up by the dash) the plastic pops up easily. I just can't see how the rear works.

It doesn't matter how many times you ask, the answer is the same

You need to remove the door panel

See instruction 1 in each of the following excerpts from manual

Take a look at this post. It has detailed photos of the door panel removal and the switch garnish panel removal.

If your car is a '91-93 and you've never installed the window fix-it thingies (available from Science of Speed) or replaced the regulators, you might want to install the thingies while you've got the door panel opened anyway. And lube it up while you're in there. Look in the FAQ in the Power Windows section (in the Troubleshooting area) for details.

Thanks Hugh.

* 4 screws to remove the switch panel from the door panel. The 2 brackets holding the switch panel can/will deform unless your carefull during screw re-install. The whole job should take less than 45 min. You may want to greese up the window rails while you have the door panel off. Use Honda high temp Urea greese.
