passenger seat recline motor/wire harness failed...

Well, for some reason or another the recline motor on my passenger's seat has failed. Its rather odd since I rarely if ever have a passenger and sees near zero usage.

Anyway, Ive checked and both fuses for the seats are still good. Ive removed the seat and tested the switches and the wire harness running to the seat from the fusebox -- both are fine. So, this leaves just the wire harness and the recline motor itself as being source of the problem. Testing the wires leading to the motor indicate an open circuit (which is BAD for a DC motor).

So, I was wondering if:
1) Anyone has ever taken their seats apart and how many hours does it normally take. Are there any things that I should watch out for?

2) If indeed the motor is toast, what is the part number and how much should I expect to pay? I havent been able to find the part numbers for anything inside of the seats. I am starting to suspect that the seats are sold "whole" only...

3) Or, would it just be easier to buy a seat from a wrecked car and just swap it out in its entirety? Color matching / fade rate problems? Cost estimates anyone?

4) It currently has the stock 20A fuses. Should I replace them with 15A or 10A fuses afterwards so that the fuse blows earlier next time?

Thanks in advance for any input or advice anyone can provide.

1) I've taken the seats apart to install seat heaters. It's a pain, and it took about two hours (and I only had to remove two cushions). There are instructions in the service manual, though I found better ways. If you decide to go this route email me and I'll look up my notes (it was a few months ago and I can't remember at all, my memory has a 24 hour half life).

2) I can't help you here.

3) This would certainly be the easiest solution. If you've already removed the seat from the car then you know how easy it is. I've seen seats on the parts forum often enough, usually for around $250 each. Shipping will probably cost about as much though, so hope you find a local set.

4) I wouldn't bother, whatever killed your motor almost certainly would have done it even with a smaller fuse. Chances are you were just unlucky =(

JS,

I got your e-mail this morning. See below:

2. 81113-SL0-A01 (Right or Left, they are the same), Check w/discount NSXCA dealers for pricing.

3. No, get the motor, it's not too bad, I have done it once, and also over the phone with someone.

4. No, same 20A fuse is fine

Hi dgaetano / Larry,

Thanks for the responses and larry thanks for the part number for the motor. I'm going to order one up right away and with any luck it will get here by the end of the week.

A couple of hours doesnt sound all that bad. Then again, I rarely ever get passengers so I guess Ic ould drag this out to weeks even and nobody will notice :)

I just checked with my usual parts place and they quoted $251.

I am currently not a member of NSXCA and Im not sure which dealers are offering the club discount. Would someone please list a couple of dealers and their email/phone numbers so I can get a few more quotes?

Thanks in advance.
