Passenger door lock not working

I did a search for this but could not find anything. I have had my 1991 NSX for about 3 months and just noticed that I cannot lock or unlock the door from the passenger side. I checked the "main" switch on the driver's side, but that's not it. At this point, I think one of three things is messed up:

1) The "main" button on the driver's side has some kind of short causing it to lock out the passenger regardless of the position that the "main" button is in

2) The passenger door lock/unlock has a problem with it

3) I have a bad fuse, but I didn't think that this circuit had a dedicated fuse

Any suggestions?

Any ideas? My wife keeps bugging me about not being able to lock or unlock her side of the car. For god's sake, I need quiet on the homefront! :frown:

Hugh? Ken? Where are you guys?!

Serioiusly, any help would be appreciated. If its covered in some other thread, I could not find it, so I will take my 10 lashes.

Hugh? What are you looking for, pictures of a guy drinking shots with a lampshade on his head? :D

Sorry, I don't know. But...

If you want to find out what to do to fix it, try Larry Bastanza (most mechanical expertise) or d'Ecosse (most electrical expertise).

A good buddy of mine had the same problem while driving his 2003 RL. Here's what you do: Go to your local Acura dealership, early on a Saturday (when they are not too busy) with the wife. Go DIRECTLY to the Service Manager, explain to him the problem. He will check for any service bulletins, and if some, you'll be taken care of. If not, and you catch him in a good mood, he may let you trade in your wife free of charge.

The 'Main' switch is for power windows, not door locks

The first thing I would suspect is that the switch is not plugged in!
Remove the door handle (no need to remove whole panel - should only take about 5 mins) & validate that it is connected)

While you have handle off, you can try taking a paper clip & shorting between pins 1 & 2 (of the connector end that disappears into door obviously, not the switch end) to unlock & 2 & 3 to lock

If it still doesn't work, give her an aspirin & call me in the morning.

p.s. Does it lock the power locks (both sides) with the key on the passenger side?

I don't have that problem I don't let my wife ride in my NSX. Oh I don't have a wife, well the ex-wife does not get to ride either

Sounds like you need to do a little electricial trouble shooting. The on line manual is very helpfull. sec 23 page 254 and 255

As Ken suggested it could be a loose connection or the actuator itself has failed.
Actually I was suspecting totally unplugged!
On the second point, I had the impression that it works OK from the driver's side so that would make the actuator OK.

Re-reading his initial post I get that too now. Time to yank the passenger door panel.

Great advice...I will try it this weekend and reply back with what the problem was. Hopefully that will help out anyone having this problem in the future.

Thank you each for your replies!

Time to yank the passenger door panel.

Easy there.

Its been a while since I worked on the door circuits, but all of the door lock wires end up at the Security Unit. He should be able to test at the SU connector (passenger side under-dash) and get a fair idea where the issue lies.

Exactly - I would start by removing just the door handle and then perform the paper-clip test I suggested into the connector.
If it works from the connector, then the switch is bad (or unplugged!)
If it doesn't no point in removing the panel - as Drew said (well, almost  ), go directly to the Power Door lock module (not the security module) at that point. Both modules are in the same location behind the glove box and share many common connections but the signals from the passenger switch ONLY go to the PL module.

Guys, I've been traveling a bunch lately and just got a chance to have this looked at. It turned out that there was a bit of light corrosion where the pins insert into the plug. We removed the corrosion and straightening the pins a little and it now works just fine. Hopefully this fix will help out someone else in the future who might have the same problem. Thanks to all of you for the advice.

Just a footnote for everyone. Whenever I have a section anywhere on the car where I can access a plug in the wiring harness, I open it up and squeeze in a little dielectric grease to prevent any corrosion. It's a good habit to pick up. :)
