Denso starters starter are used in many Japanese cars.
Most starters fail because of worn out brushes. I just help a friend with his Integra starter. We actually got the brushes from Toyota for about $22 bucks.
replaced the brushes and cleans the contact points and now the starter is all good again.
I was new to the NSX at the time and was somewhat hesitant. When I visited their shop, I saw dozens of Denso starters on their work benches and shelves and realised that the NSX starter is not made out of gold and can be easily repaired.
It cost me $45 for a complete re-build (approx 6 yrs ago) and I haven't had a problem since.
I found a member who is getting one from a US store and then forwarding it to me. Mine was making a bad grinding noise like it had found chipped teeth on the flywheel. The starter is getting old, the car has almost 200,000 kms and i can't find a replacement included in the receipts from previous owners. I'm assuming its time for a replacement/rebuild so a i got one for about $170. Thanks to a prime member in Washington state for forwarding it for me since the company there won't ship to Canada. i called Lordco auto here and they said they could not find an NSX starter anywhere in Canada.
Lordco can get the rebuild kit , it includes the gear, the problem with them is , you need a counter guy that knows his stuff!! ( hard to find @ lordco - unless you drive a picup truck!) If you need anyting for your car let me know , I will help you find it
