I was installing the Dali rear mounting bracket and running the wire from the engine bay for my Valentine 1 over the weekend. I was careless and broke the panel (the square panel on the firewall behind the seats. I searched DelRay Acura's part listing and found the part with the description below:

014 83770-SL0-A00ZC LINING, L. RR. CENTER BULKHEAD ( REAL BLACK ) $71.62 (20% off)

These two pieces are basically two panel boards wrapped with leather. It would cost me $140 + shipping to buy two new pieces from the dealer!!! I thought I try to do some craft work and see if I could repair them.

I visited Home Depot. I bought a big piece of panel board what was already cut (discarded, cut, left over, etc) and paid only $2.16 with tax. Home Depot offers 2 free cuts and I ended up with 4 pieces to practice. I also paid $4.35 for four new clips from our local Acura dealer and I went to Rocker and bought 6 feet of 3/4" felt tape for $6.48.

First, I removed the leather from the panel and put the original piece over the purchased panel board. I used an ink pen to outline the exact shape of the original panel and used a jig saw to cut it to the exact size. I used the 1/4" and 1/2" wood drill bits to produce the holes that house the clips. Then, I glued the four metal brackets over the holes and installed the clips. The last steps were to put the new panel board into the leather and staple the edges.

The process was so easy and the result was so good that I will consider making another new panel board for the other piece, and the whole thing only cost me less than $20.
