painting my car

Who would do a great job painting my car in the bay..................bill

The Works Auto body in Santa Clara. And for a fair Price. All high end cars F-cars, P-cars and Lotus's Lambo's go there for work. Alan just had his BLK NSX done there. He left one panel original and you can't tell the difference.

Long time NSXer Andrew Warren told me that The Works is a big thunbs up.

I've added some related NSX links to the Links section in the YahooGroups site.

Check them out and feel free to add additional links you might feel are worthy!!

Go talk to Dan (owner) at Brooks Motor Cars (BMC) in Oakland. Located near the OAK airport on Bigge St. You will be amazed the minute you walk into the shop. They know how to get the factory look on the NSX.

They claim "Quality, workmanship, commitment, and satisfaction". Now, I'm in Marketing /Advertising and usually those words are just fluff. For BMC, it's a way of life.

Bill,

My NSX is currently at Brooks Motor Car based on mickeylex's referral. It should be out in the next couple of weeks. If you can hold off until then, we can get together so you can check out their work up close.

They know how to get the factory look on the NSX.

I'll do that ,mike......thanks....................bill

let me know how it turns out?

I will also recommend Brooks Motor Cars but if you are in the Peninsula, you can check out Williams Autobody & Paint in San Mateo. He painted (NMyMirr)Jackson's NSX and the black paint job is flawless.

What do they charge for the front bumper? I just had my rear bumper done and they charged $800! at 19th avenue auto body.

wow $800 to paint a rear bumper:eek:

wow $800 to paint a rear bumper:eek:

I know the cost of living is more in SF, but $800 to paint a rear bumper is almost criminal.

Not long ago, I had to repaint the rear bumper on my '08 pearl white TL. Took it to a well respected body shop here in So.Cal, and he charged me less than half of what you paid (which included a surcharge for pearl paints).

Maybe your body shop thought the rear bumper was aluminum, hence the extortionated price?

That's not out of line for quality workmaship. I mean what if I said " WOW! $30K for a 17 year old Acura/Honda? eek!" Price isn't everything.

So for a quality paint job, it depends on how they do it. Bumper on the car? Bumper off of the car? Primer done cleanly? Color sand? Did they smooth is out nicely. Did they match the existing orange peel? No ridges? No drips? No uneven color? Tint time to match the paint to the adjacent body panels so they don't have to "blend". And finally, if you aren't happy, for whatever reason, will they do it again and be happy to do it for you?

Or do you want to take your NSX to a shop that just tapes/masks the part off, scuffs the existing finish, shoots the primer and lays the color on right out of the can? You can get that for $400 for a rear bumper pretty much anywhere. Will it be quality? Maybe, but remember that maybe almost always means no.

A lot goes into painting a car (and parts) the right way, and in the words of our good friend MikeC: "pay once, cry once".

I agree...I paid $800 for both my GT2 spoiler and TechArt front lip spoiler to be painted. Total labor was over 12 hrs of work done by one individual who is a professor of auto painting. Or you can go to Macco and get the whole car painted for $400. Point: The best service and craftmanship don't come cheap.

Also, beware of the shops that charge for removing all moldings and panels prior to painting. They don't always take the parts off. I have experienced this on my previous car. I noticed masking around the molding and it was quite rough on the edges. If I ever did this again, I would personally need to see all the pieces off the car to be satisfied.

If you paint the NSX, I'd like to see them take off the exterior B pillars. PITA.

You make a good point. Whenever I've had cars painted, I've told the shop owner in advance that I would stop by at least every other day and expect to inspect the parts off of the car with 1. prior to any paint work and 2. prior to reinstallation. It's much easier to correct issues before the parts are installed back on the car. The quality shops are more than happy to allow time for owner inspection.

It's called cost of NSX owner adjustment.

NSX owners are known to be fussy and therefore any shop that will touch their cars will up the price for that up and coming complaint about the paint job so they don't loose money.

Uhhhh with Brook's Motor Cars it is just the way they do business. I don't care what you drive, they do a great job. They have worked on my daily driver Prius 3 times and it always comes back like new. Of course when I had the NSX they did the work it needed too.

Bill,

I was able to pick up my NSX from Brook Motor Car this afternoon. I'm very impressed with the work that they performed. When do you want to meet up so you can look ot over?

Let me know.

Mike
