Good luck with this. I have been working on mine for the last 6 weeks! The chrome plating was blistering on all 5 panels, including the ash tray cover. I started to sand the surface thinking it was just the top layer of paint that was funky, ended up being the chrome was lifting off the plastic
I consulted my bike painter who has done car restorations and he said the only way to get the new paint to stick was to get all the plating off and start with primer on the plastic.
I spent over 4 hours with an exacto blade picking the ptating off :frown:
Then, couple of hours sanding, priming, filling, sanding, priming, filling, to cover up the scratches I put in and the funkyness that was under the plating where it lifted.
He is using PPG activated paint and a clear coat with a flattening agent to get the stock looking finish. We shot the final coat 2 weeks ago and the flattening agent was old, got all these little bubbles in it, had to be sanded down to reshoot.
Of course, I dropped one of the arm panels and cracked it, so that had to be epoxied back together, spot primered, sanded, painted. etc.
I hope to get them finished today, but we will see.
Good luck with this, don't know if I would try this one again
