post up your painted center consoles!!!

my way to help decide whether i should go painted, or spend the $$$ for carbon wrapping

I like the 02+ center console, in my opinion brings the nsx interior back to "modern" times .. my 97 "dark brown" console is OK though, I can live with that .....

You're seriously thinking about painting that?!?!

What are we back in 1997 with all the painted interior parts? Whats next the colored hoses in the engine to look like a bunch of snakes? lol

here is mine, the previous owner had it painted at the body shop color matched to my car with clear coat. when i first heard about it i was expecting it to look like an abortion but when i saw it person i was blown away by it. a lot of north east guys who has seen my car says it matches the car perfectly.

what are u talking about this looks sick.. certain colors dont look good like the brighter ones..... you dont want it to be too loud.

I'm personally going with a smoked CF..... dont do the CF wrap!

I did mine Gloss black, because I bought the wrap and it looked horrible and when i tried to peel it up it took some of my oem console with it:frown:

Mine in a darker gunmetal metallic finish. Make sure you use a high quality automotive paint or it won't last in the sun under the windshield.

when i say wrapped, i dont mean the stick on

im talking RAVI wrapped

hmm, maybe ill go with a gloss black... it looks pretty good. if not, ill stay with the carbon when i pay off my CC bills haha

I did the same(gloss black) to my car when I installed my stereo system and it looks real nice and I matched the door peices as well to match. I also did the NAV pod I will take some pics and post it tonite. I think you will like it.

I would post my set up but it looks exactly like this one with out the JDM Nav pod. I used Honda solaris silver its close to the newer OEM color it just has some metallic in it. used some sandable primer to give it that OEM texture. Very happy with the results. I have gotten many complements on it that it looks factory and thats what I was going for. I would leave if stock if you are not changing the headunit.

CF is nice only if you have other CF to go with it and that is what you are into. Painting is a DIY project and is easer on the wallet with better results in my opinion. But I would not paint it yellow, go with a dark color.

wow painting the center console is more common than i thought in this community.

Most people upgrade the stereo because the BOSE amps go bad. There isn’t a very good option for a replacement center console with out spending a crap load of cash. So the OEM one is often used and painted. I purchased a CF center console from Dali and was extremely disappointed in the quality. Then I modified my OEM dash to work with my new head unit. My Stereo System is one of my favorite Enhancements I have done to my NSX. The GF loves watching movies on it 2 for those long trips, and the back up camera comes in handy when backing into a parking spot.

It wouldn't be so common if the OEM consoles didn't have a crappy finish that bubbles up after some odd years of sun exposure... :)

I am a fan of the 02+ stock console finish/color, but this is one aftermarket job that looks really good. What color is this? Midnight Pearl...if that is a color?

yes thats what it is... its not mine but I am tempted to do this..

I'd keep it to stock color or close shades to it as possible. Anything from it will make it a tough sell when it's time to do so.

That is IF you ever sell it... I'm never selling!

any idea what color of paint to get?

What color (ie. spray-paint/etc') would most closely match the actual color of the OEM/stock center-console & door-trim pieces?

I have a black-faced JDM Nav' pod w/ vents, which ideally I'd like to color-match as closely as possible to my OEM/stock center-console & door-trim pieces. Ideally, I would prefer to avoid having to repaint the center-console & door-trim pieces. . .

Thanks, in-advance!

Admittedly, a mirror-like piano-black lacquer finish (sorta/somewhat like eNeSeX 95T's pic) would look damn hot (it'd also match the fascia/face-plate of my GPS/Nav' unit in the JDM Nav' pod). I've seen it on the Mercedes Benz CLS Designo package & Aston Martin DBS. Adding some chrome or polished-finish trim-rings/bezels, and perforated black Alcantara/ultra-suede door-panel & seat-cushion inserts (w/ dark-gray/anthracite contrast double-stitching), finished off w/ some black floor-mats w/ reflective-gray 'NSX' embroidery & edging/piping (same material used in running-shoes & safety vests/jackets) would look absolutely fantastic... perhaps in the future, hmmm!?! :D

The stock silver color on the NA1s is almost impossible to match perfectly. Under the paint there is a Chrome sheet that makes the console its shade of silver. You can get it close but it wont be exact.

That's what I was afraid of... sighhh!

I guess I'll dabble w/ my Testors model-paints (both enamels & acrylics) to se if I can come up w/ a near-match, as the total surface-area to paint (JDM Nav' pod edges) isn't all that much.

Perhaps I'll also look into whether or not I can find a similar colored/textured shrink-foil material. There's a local materials supplier that I've used in the past for misc' projects/tasks who has dozens of product catalogs & brochures, each larger than phone-books, full of such types of materials & so forth (ie. textured shrink-foil coverings). . .

That's precisely why I didn't want to paint the center-console & door-trim pieces as they are already otherwise in great condition (no bubbling/peeling/etc') & if I decided to refinish the surface, I'd have to remove the surface-foil material, which I've heard is a real P.I.T.A. . .
