Hi everybody! After 20 years of waiting, I finally got my NSX! It's a '92 red/black beauty. I'm so HAPPY.

I'm having the pros at SOS do some overdue maintenance, but I'm still looking for a paint shop in the Phoenix area. The existing paint is fine, but needs some love. Any recommendations?

By "love", do you mean just some paint correction? If you are simply in need of light scratch and swirl removal perhaps you need to talk to a local detailer and not a paint shop.

Ask Chris while you're at SOS. He should have some good recommendations.

Elwood Body Works in Scottsdale does great work. Elwood Body Works has done all of the paint work on the Shine and Downforce upgrades on my NSX.

Thank you for the quick responses. I think i am going to need paint so i will check in with Elwood to get their input. I will also check with Chris on the prospect of detailing to cover all options!
thanks again!

I asked Chris at SOS the same question last month regarding painting the nose and door on my son's C6 Corvette. SOS Chris also recommended Elwood.

I went there and spoke with the owner...his name is Chris also. Not only was the work perfect...and I mean flawless, it was super reasonable! The paint work was a perfect match!

I will never go anywhere else. By the way, the guy does all the work for the local Ferrari and Lambo stores in town.

Be sure to use my name...Rob, the guy with the white painted nose and door on his son's Corvette C6 and Red NSX. Remind him I am the retired PPD Lieutenant and hooked him up at Lonestar Racing for his ATV...he will remember!

Then tell him you want the "good guy discount." Believe this or not, he will take some off your estimate for that!

His number is: 480-947-9479, Chris Pietrancosta

Let me know how it works out!

Yeah Chris at SOS was so impressed by the paintwork done on my NSX that he wanted to know who did it... So I gave him the contacts and some business cards of Elwood Body Works. Then Chris sent his NSX to Elwood...

I learned about Elwood Body Works about 3 years ago on nsxprime. I'm lucky that I was paying attention to the postings... Besides their excellent work, they are super cool people! Just like ScienceofSpeed!

I called Elwood's a few weeks ago, don't know who I spoke with, but whoever it was quoted ~ $5K for a full paint job on an nsx, said I'd have to visit the shop for a firm quote.

I went to the shop, talked to Don, who said $7500 to paint over existing paint, and $1500 extra to remove existing paint, plus any body work they deem necessary once they remove the paint. Car's been wrecked before, so who knows what they'd find.

Bottom line, $9K+ for a paint-off repaint. Given their exclusive use of "undocumented immigrants," that seems pricey. Maybe they do show-quality jobs, but nothing Don said struck me as out-of-the-ordinary, according to what I've read so far about quality paint jobs.

Also, was a little surprised/concerned when Don acted like he hadn't seen a paint thickness gauge used before.

WOW ! Really? Thats your excuss for maybe bitting off more then you can chew. I'm not trying to be incompliant to the rules and regulations to NSXPrime, But the personal attack to Elwood Body Works needs to be addressed. So before you make another ignorant statement about "undocumented immigrants" know your facts. Elwood complies with all state and federal employment regulations. That means there are no "undocumented workers here. And as far as Don (the owner) looking concerned about your gauge, it was giving two different readings in the same place. So dont jump to conclusions.
Aside from all this, isnt the quality of work thats is important, and not what nationality performes the work? Elwood does warranty all labor and materials for as long as you own the vehicle. And has been in buisness since 1986.

I just saw this Thread and must tell everyone about my experiencew at Elwood Paint and Body!

First off, super nice people. Chris is especially easy to deal with! I have also spoken with Don and he knows more about paintwork under one fingernail than I will ever have in my brain!

Elwood painted the door and front nose bumper on my son's 2005 C6 Corvette. They also did numerous other paint touch ups throughout the exterior of the car.

Now, please keep in mind that we are in Arizona and the previous owner of the car had never detailed or waxed the car before, and Elwood was still able to complete a flawless match of the paint!

I have been back to Elwood many times since and continually get the best service I could ever want from a paint and body shop. The place is first class all the way and always has a Ferrari or two getting work done. I have even seen Lambos and other exotics getting work done so they must be doing something right!

Now, the comments about the workers...that is completely unfair in my opinion. First, I have been to Elwood many times and have never once seen anyone who resembles what you describe. Secondly, everyone I have ever seen there has been friendly, willing to help and assist me in anyway.

I couldn't give Elwood higher marks for paint and body work. I am about as picky as a person can be and they have my business for a very long time!

Alright, you've got some valid points, well taken, my apologies for offending, was not my intention.

Don was very pleasant, too, had a really good time talking to him.

The main point was that a bid of $5K over the phone, then $7.5K+ once I drove to the shop, does not a good impression make.

Not a huge deal. If that happened to you, you'd share that experience with others.

Maybe it was my fault for not making sure I spoke to the same salesman in person as I spoke with on the phone.

If that's the case, others should know this so they don't make the same mistake.

Elwood Body Works is the best. That's why I keep returning to them when I have a new upgrade that needs to be matched and painted. During my visits to Elwood Body Works I've seen Ferarri's, Lambo's, a Carrera GT, and even a Tempe Fire Engine. I guess Tempe Fire Dept. takes their vehicles to Elwood Body Works. I could tell by all of the high dollar vehicles that I've seen in Elwood Body Works that the owners of these vehicles trust Elwood's to do high quality work.

Chris at ScienceofSpeed knows my NSX very well. When ever I would pick up my car at Elwood's after paintwork on a new body upgrade I would take it to ScienceofSpeed to show Chris and Jeff. Chris was always very impressed with the paint work and he would grab his camera and take pictures.
The high quality paint work done on my NSX is why Chris took his NSX to Elwood Body Works.

Thanks everybody. Didn't need to have my NSX painted (the Spa Yellow is perfect) but I did have my Z3 painted at Elwood. They did a fantastic job. Looks brand new. Thanks for the recommendation.
