I got a rock chip on my '91 silver and it was primer white below the black paint on the roof before I filled it in.

In the NSX Development & History book, the 27 step painting process is shown in detail.  Each step shows a picture of the car and what has been applied to it and when the car is baked.  They use red in the example.  The roof is unpainted until the last step in the painting process.

Based on the procedure outlined in this book, I'm led to believe that your roof may have been painted red at one time and then back to black.  Is the black paint appear to be original?  You may want to compare it with another NSX that has a roof with original paint.
