Hi gang,
15 months ago, a group of us almost filled a run group at a Streets of Willow event. And a few of us were hooked. 5 events later, I plan on doing it on a regular basis.
With such a wonderful sports car, you owe it to yourself to see how your car runs on a track. Here is the path I took with the NSX:
1> I bought my 91 6 years ago because I love the look and performance reviews of this car.
2> A few canyon drives here and there for the first 3 years.
3> Cal. Coastal autocrosses started a few years ago.
4> 12/03, a group of beginners thought it'd be fun to see how we do on the track. And that's the beginning of a brand new relationship I started with her.
What is track driving?
Track drivng is safe and organized...
a> All the drivers are paying 100% attention on driving.
b> No on-coming traffic
c> No speed limits.
d> The principle is very simply, but of course mastering it takes time. I'm sure a few racers will be happy to go over the basic driving techniques with you if you want to give it a try.
e> You can drive at your own pace that you are comfortable with.
f> It give you a totally different appreciation of the cars we love so much. It is a totally different experience that no public roads can compare.
g> Track folks are very friendly and more than willing to help. e.g. Marc Weinberg.
Let's uncover the myths of track driving:
a> Not for the rich and famous only. Most track events cost less than $200. So after gas or possibly hotel, your out of pocket cost is less than $300.
b> Not for race cars only. You'll see plenty of road cars like RX7s, Miatas, rental cars (yes rentals)...
c> You are not going to race against other cars. High Performance Driving Education (HPDE) has no timing equipment and there is no trophy at the end of the day. Just a big smile on your face.
Track driving is not like most people, and that includes myself, think. If you have been to one, you'll understand that it is not that intimidating and you'll have a new found appreciation for your car.
What is my point?
Well, may be it is time for us to have an NSX track day. April's weather should be as perfect as can be. Last year was in the mid 70's with a slight breeze.
Here is the event info:
Date 4/30/05
Location: Pahrump, NV (around 250 miles from LA/OC).
Track Event Info
Event organizer: MJ from Dali (I've been with Speedtrial and Speedventures and MJ's is the best).
Advantages of this event:
a> Low car count per run group - less crowded track
b> Tons of track time - more time to practice
c> Low key and relaxing - it is refreshing and not rushed
d> Most everyone are responsible adults - more responsible drivers
e> Very few spin outs - That means more track time and less chance of an accident.
This will be my 3rd time to Pahrump, and last time we had over 10 NSXs. You can check out the 11/20/04 Pics.
Let's see if we can pull this one off. Please chime in if you have any questions.
p.s. Sorry for the long post!
