Outer diameter of clutch discs

Michael,
How big of a hurry are you in for this information. I have two disks sitting on my work bench at home. I am not there. I will call home and get somebody to measure them for me. They are both the same size. My daughter is good at this. She is a car nut. I will get back to you.

Hi Brad,
thanks for your response. It´s not much hurry, -got some days time. It´s concerning an offer for a clutch rebuilt. Here´s a company specialized in rebuilding clutches and the estimatet cost´s for a dual disc clutch are aprox 500USD. They promise up to 20% more traction and they have good references, so I plan to give it a try. But they asked me for the diameter in order to see if they are able to do my clutch. So it has time till after christmas. You would do me a nice favour and I thank you in advance.

Looking forward to my daughter (5yo) is becoming a car nut as well...

Regards Michael

Whatever you do, do not just have a new lining put on your original disks. This WILL fail. If you want to re-line clutch disks you MUST start with new disks, and have then relined.

So your cost is somewhere around $900-$1000 to reline them correctly.

Do not spend $500 for something that will not last.

LarryB

Hi Larry,

The company (http://www.meine-kupplung.de/content/cms/front_content.php?idcat=89 ) seems to be very versed in rebuilding clutches. I need to send them not only the discs but the whole clutch together with the pressure plate and the flywheel. They will refurbish the surfaces of the plates and check the springs. In case that all parts are reuseable they have estimated the costs around 500 Euro what is about 625 USD. I accidently had posted 500USD instead 500Euro. Thats still cheap.

I don´t get (due to language skill) what you mean by "If you want to re-line clutch disks you MUST start with new disks, and have then relined."

They will put on complete new linings.

After your statemtent I am a little uncertain, mean that there could be something special with the NSX clutch what the company could overlook by mistake.

What is your concern about things could go wrong?

Many thanks and regards

Michael

I think LarryB means that you must purchase new discs then send them out to be rebuilt. The springs on the original disc could easily break and shouldn't be used again. When the springs do break, your clutch will be useless and you won't be able to drive the car, and the whole transmission will have to come out again and the whole clutch job will have to be done again. This is why it's important to start with a new clutch disc to be rebuilt to handle more torque. I think centerforce goes this route on their clutches.

Michael,
Last night I was finally able to get to call home. I had my future son-in-law measure one of my old disks. The diameter is 7 1/2 inches. I didn't have a measuring tape or stick in metric. You will just have to converte the inches to mm. Sorry it took so long.

I ordered my new clutch from SOS two weeks ago, and part of the price providing a "core exchange." All SOS required was the pressure plate, mid-plate, and flywheel (along with bolts). This is a sure sign that as mentioned in previous posts here, the clutch disks should not be "refurbished." Hope this helps to reassure you that you should keep researching and asking questions before you decide to go through with this clutch.

HTH. Good luck.

Chuck
