Hi All,

Did a search and did saw little mention of noise issue of this Giken LSD. Being a 1.5 setup, what is considered a normal?

Had the setup for over a month and 1k miles. I and everyone near the vehicle can hear the clutch pack clanking away......more so on slow left than right turn. Gas it a little and my exhaust takes over. Mechanic told me he used OEM lube and was thinking of adding some additatives. Any sugestions?

Thanks Regard
Paul

I've ridden in an NSX with that LSD and a Viper with an aftermarket LSD.
Both made the same loud and awful sounding noises in slow turns.
You'll just have to keep telling everyone who asks...."No, my tranny is not about to fall out of the car"
And unless you track your car heavily, it's not worth doing, IMO.

I'm not sure how you're going to gauge "normal" but the OS Giken LSD does produce some noise during cornering - and the noise will become more noticeable at low speeds. The noise is just indicative of the type of LSD we both have.

PM AK he has one and Larry B did the install.

Esprit 1,

OEM tranny fluid only good only OEM LSD. So you have to use aftermarket tranny fluid like ATS or Kaaz since your OS Giken LSD is a clutch type LSD.

OEM fluid is not thick enough for your clutch type LSD and you can't get 100% performance from it either. I would not recommend Redline fluid because I heard it dose not work well w/ aftermarket LSD but I might be wrong.

Good Luck
Ken

I'm running Redline MT90 fluid right now and it seems to work ok but I still get the LSD chatter. MT90 has the friction modifier which should ease the chatter to certain degree, but some chatter is normal. What I was told is that Honda fluid is ok if you are driving on the street. As Sugoi said, I was told that it would not the best performing on the track because of its high temperature performance..or lack there of. So if you only drive on the street, then you can probably live with honda fluid and add some friction modifier to reduce the chatter...however, you have to be careful of the amount of friction modifier you put in, otherwise, your LSD won't perform well.

I think I'll try Kaaz or Motul Gear FF competition fluid next to see if it performs any different, although I have heard that the Motul is a bit heavy on honda trannys.

You guys are very helpful and way cool. Thanks a million......

Was beginning to get paranoid as neighbors were eyeing me in my broken car. Yes car is my daily driver but love power starts to legal speed limit whenever its safe.

Please do let me know if anyone finds the ideal lube. Really appreciate your advise. Will keep the Honda lube in there for now.

Thanks Regard
Paul

PS: Kind of convinent to turn down races when they hear my noisy axle.

The noise is normal that is what race trannys sound like.....because it is locking....and you hear the clacking when you slow down and turn. I will be getting the same LSD myself and I will have to live with that. You just have to tell people hey its a race tranny. Congrats on getting the OS ;)

You guys that have these, can you give some more feedback about the performance of this LSD?
Has it gotten any more noisy?
Has it quieted down?
Have any of you switched up fluids that have made it better or worse?
Any of you running high torque numbers with this LSD?
Anyone know the limits that the 4:44 final drive will handle?

Thanks
Len
