Optical Illusion?

I have 225/45/16 Yoko ES100 on the front and 255/40/17 on the rear. Everytime I look at the car it seems that the section height of the front is so much bigger than the rear. Now, I realize that the difference in size between the 16 front and 17 rear contributes to the optical illusion, howver, I was wondering if this same illusion exists with the OEM size of 215/45/16 and 245/40/17?

You must have extremely calibrated eyes to note the section height difference of only 1 mm - 101 mm in front vs 102 mm in back. Even so, it truly is an illusion because the section height in front is smaller than the back.

I know that the front section height is smaller than the rear; my actual inquiry is whether the visual effect with the OEM wheels and tires gives the same "optical illusion." I am asking this to help me decide if I should return to the OEM size tires when I need to replace them, IF this illusion is not as prevalent with the OEM setup. I can't believe this bothers me this much; I must be losing it!!

Well, first let's look at the numbers for the actual (calculated) sidewall height:

Stock:
Front 215/45-16 (stock): 96.75 mm
Rear 245/40-17 (stock): 98 mm

Yours:
Front 225/45-16 (yours): 101.25 mm
Rear 255/40-17 (yours): 102 mm

As Andy notes, the front is actually smaller, but the difference is tiny - and it's roughly the same 1 mm with yours as it is with the stock sizes.

There could be slight differences due to variations in the amount of tire wear and/or the amount of deflection of the tire.

I think agree with the part that says you can't believe this bothers you this much.
