I'm looking at replacing my 2006 MB CLS500 because the warranty is going to expire soon. I've been searching around for a 4dr or crossover and I keep coming back to the TL. Although it looks like a porker, I found a CPO'd 2010 TL 14k miles with Tech package for $27k and warranty til 2017. Compared to other cars in the same price range I'm not finding a comparable car for the same money.

So what do some of you think?

TIA.

My other considerations are a 2011 Ford Edge Sport or 2011 VW CC Luxury.

I had a TL as a loaner once while my NSX was in the shop. It was a really nice car and I left wanting one as a DD. Very comfortable and I love all the features (though I did not use the voice command business). In sport mode it even hauls a little bit of ass.

In my opinion the TL is a bit humongous - definitely harder to park than the NSX, so I've shifted my aspirations to getting an 09 or newer TSX. Really great looking car in my opinion. The only modern car that looks better than its predecessor (the 04-08 TSX is totally boring looking).

I will say that having driven both a modern TL and a modern Lexus ES350, the ES had a few more features that I actually used (like automagical windshield wipers) and was a bit easier to drive comfortably. What I mean by that is that their throttle map is clearly designed around absolute passenger comfort and making people feel like they were in a limo was effortless. The TL's throttle response was a little more jagged and less predictable.

So, if I were shopping for a TL-sized car, I might be tempted by the ES350, but since I want a TSX-sized car, I don't see that Lexus has a good answer in their lineup right now for the TSX. Test drive both the Acura and the Lexus and see what you like, comes down to personal taste.

DocL - first, I think that is a red-hot deal on the CPO'd 2010 TL you mentioned.
I am still "not a fan" of the 2009 and newer TL -even though Acura has toned-down the awful, beakish front end look. We have a 2006 TL with 113 K miles on it, needs TB/H2O pump/spark plugs etc but should be fine for another 150 K miles - 29 mpg and all options - love it. Somewhat looking right now for a 2008 TL-S to add to "the fleet."

" in the same price range I'm not finding a comparable car for the same money " I agree, completely. BUY-BUY!

Agree with Neal as regards the TLs. Very few problems -- my /06 has 83K miles and nothing major -- still runs and looks like new. My Dad has an /04 that used to be mine -- 103K and same experience. One thing to add is that if you can overlook the aesthetics (sorry Doc, I love the looks of the /04-08 TL but the 09+ is totally unappealing to my eye) I've found the TL SH-AWD loaners I've had from the Dealer to be among the finest driving sedans out there. And yes, I've driven the E Class Benz and the new 535i. IMHO the TL is dynamically better than the BMW. I didn't spend enough time in the Benz. And then there is the issue of maintenance, longetivity, etc.

Best,
jeff

Doc.
I had a 2010 for 6 months and got rid of it.
Did not care for the 5 speed trans. Very jerky.
Mpg was at 15.
Hump in middle seat was useless.
Trunk was compromised by awd system.
Overall, I'd rather have the previous generation or the 2012.
Have had many TLs...2010 was a dissapointment.

FWIW my wife has a /10 Volvo S80T6 which is a nice car and has been trouble-free but its just not in same league as my /06TL (read: doesn't ride, brake, handle, etc. as well as the TL and not very much fun to drive, although terrific long distance hwy car). I need to replace that car at end of this year as lease is up. I've been looking at ads on Cars.com for low mileage /08 Acura Certified TLs -- there are plenty around -- some very high teens and most low 20s before any dickering on price. If I can find the right one I may do that. Problem is that the price of a decent sport sedan today is low 40s whereas the /06 TL cost me very low 30s. If I found any of the new cars compelling I'd pop for 40K or a bit north of there but alas, I don't find anything of great interest. I am hoping that the complete re-design of the TL will be appealing. Don't know what I'll do if that is a disappointment.

I think I'm going with the 2010 TL. I've negotiated to 26.7k and I'll probably get $20k on my CLS as a trade. The car I like has been serviced every 3k miles at the dealer and is a one owner car. My payment will only be $312/mo thanks to thr PenFed 1.49% deal. It's time for me to be practical.

Btw, i looked for a 2008 TL-S, but a low ones with low mileage are asking mid $20's. I'd rather get a newer CPO car for the same money.

wow doc.
that's one heck of a deal. Makes me want to get rid of my 2012 cls.

Solid purchase. That's a lot of car for ~25k. My significant other or I will probably be daily driving a 2012 TL in 2-3 years. A lot of (minor) updates and it's significantly more expensive than a 2010 right now.

That sounds like one heck of a deal. Is this FWD or SH-AWD? What color is it, inside and out?

It's FWD. I really don't think I need the SH-AWD-BS-NEW-NSX drivetrain. The exterior color is the Platinium Silver (hides the hideous beak grille) with Taupe interior.

Good choice and killer deal. Have you seen the owners manual yet? It's ginormous!:biggrin: There's definitely a learning curve with this car. Let me know if you need help.

My friend was deciding between a TL and an Aussie car.

He picked the Aussie car since it looked better and was more rewarding to drive.

It looks like....

I picked up the TL and I like it a lot. Great throttle response and good torque. The only two creature comforts I miss are the power adjust steering wheel and convenience of the drivers seat and steering wheel moving when I get in out of the car.

For $26,750 I don't think I could have bought a better vehicle.

I think you did great. I sometimes wonder why they didn't put a power steering column in the car, but honestly, how often do you change it once it's set? I think few people have cars with multiple drivers that need different possitions. Alot of households have his and her cars, no sharing.
