Opinion about wingwest front spoiler

Questions... always questions...

I ordered the front spoiler from Dali and I will have it installed in one month. I really like the spoiler from some angle (straight front for example) and from every angle on dark cars... weher you cannot see the mounting lines. But (

in this case) my car is Sebring silver, this means that the lines will be very visible.

Look at this photo (courtesy of Jonathan): http://www.irquick.net/jahani/car%20photos/Feb_SouthBay_Meet_Silver.jpg

the border of the spoiler sticks out from the lower front bumper. Not a lot but enough to look aftermarket. My bodyshop told me that the could smooth the "difference" by using fiberglass and it would look one piece. I have no idea if the result will look better... this bodyshop is very good and install fiberglass parts on showcars but again, I am not sure how it would look. Any opinion pro/against?

PS: my lower bumper has already been painted, so repainting would not compromise original paint.

I think what the body shop means is that they'll "mold" the spoiler to the bumper, which will make the spoiler look like it's part of the bumper rather than an added piece. They can do this with fiberglass and bondo.

I'm sure it'll look good, but you should take note that if you want to return to the OEM look then you'll either have to:

a) pay the shop to properly remove the molded spoiler, which may sometimes be difficult.

b) purchase a new/used lower bumper piece.

Also, it's more likely that if you hit/scrape the front spoiler often that it'll end up creating cracks in the fiberglass/bondo where it was molded to the bumper and/or the spoiler. Don't let this scare you, just be aware of it.

Veleno, thanks for the analysis. I am aware that in case I do want to go back to stock it will cost me a couple hundreds more (but this is not a problem...

).

The cracking part disturbs me more. The bodyshop told me that a well done work will support some flexion. But as said I have no experience and I do not know what that means...

Anyway, do you also think that the molding will make the wingwest spoiler look less "attached"? I am still debating myself on the fact that the spoiler is thick (1/3 of an inch) and the molding will not appear flat. Only a smooth transition between the bumper and the spoiler...

http://www.acuraworld.com/forums/ I am sure if you post the picture there in the Photoshop section someone can help you out by photoshopping the picture and you can have a better idea of how it would look after its done.

Thanks for the suggestion Armando, actually I have photoshopped it myself... I will work on it more to make it a little better (I am not very good with Photoshop

). Anyway I think you understtod what I would like to make. What is your opinion?

G, especially since you were originally concerned about scraping, I would recommend not using any bondo (FG repair) to join these parts - in spite of what your body guy says, the highly flexible bumper & spoiler will not be a good combination with the filler material & it will undoubtedly crck with even minor interference.
Also, as suggested above, replacing it will be a nightmare.
If you really like the flushed look, try the Style front, like Trond's (although it is FG & I personally don't like that material on the front - again, cracks too easily)

Jonathan, yes it is that part!

Ken, I know... that is what it stops me from having it molded!

What about smoothing the edges of the spoiler in order to have it better flushing with the lower bumper?

My wingwest is already on the way (as said I like it a lot!), the only negative is the mounting line that is quite evident...

I was worried about that too, however it really isn't that bad. Especially since the rest of the part mounts well, covering up any potential parting lines.

While it is still a bit more than I would like, you really don't notice it much, especially if you mount the WW side skirts because the new parting line extends throughout the body of the car making it look less pronounced.

Which is why I am still kicking around finishing up with the skirts, but now I am trying to think of the vent/mesh solution I want to make the two intakes match up between the side skirt and the main stock side intake.

Gheba- I think it may be too much of a hassle to have it molded in, although the look will be awesome...

As long as you are careful I dont think it will be a problem on cracking. My car is very low, and I scrape it quite often, but just take it slow, and I havent seen any cracks....although the previous owner went through a whole bunch of these, just go over your driveways slow and angled..

5inchfatlip, I know it would look really awesome. Even better in my opinion than the more expensive german Style bumper. I was wondering why nobody did it before... probably because of the cracking issues.

Doesn't exist a more flexible "filler" for this purpose?

Gheba, I've been trying to send you an update on the screw locations for the skirts - I think the file may have been too large before for your ISP to handle it- I just re-sent with a smaller file, please let me know if you don't receive it.

I think you're going to have to live with the seam. There's no reliable way to join these elements smoothly with any degree of flexibility.

D'Ecosse, can you please send pics off the skirt screw locations to me too. I will be installing soon. [email protected]
Thank you.

i think part of the problem is the lighting ... there are alot of shadows and bright light in the photo... i dont know if its me but seems like maybe the color match might have been a shade off...silver is a hard color to match.

The lighting is definitely playing tricks, because if anything, the chin spoiler is darker than the rest of the car, yet the direct overhead sunlight is making it look very light, which is a problem in general when photographing the Sebring color.

And I just added the WW front and I think
Honda should build the car with something similar. It adds so much to the front.
I am very happy with the new look!
