Gents, I need your opinion.

I have a 1994 NSX, with about 67,000 miles on it. I absolutley LOVE the car. Its been my dream car for a long long time.

I have been reading quite a bit lately, and I think I am coming to the age where my rashional mind is starting to overpower the lustful mind. These Horrible thoughts of selling my NSX keep entering my head.

The logical side of me says sell the car (you have enjoyed it enough- 3 years), take the money and invest it in some real-estate or stocks, pay off your other cars, and have no car payments.

What do you think my car could fetch in todays market? I have recently put in a new clutch and timing belt and performed the 60K service with Larry.. so its good to go for a long long time. No more maintenance other than oil changes for a long time.

I have had very little expirience selling expensive cars in the used market. I was thinking a fair price would be 35,000- 39,000, since so much work has recently been put into it.

QUESTIONS

1. is this a fair price?
2. do you allow people the ability to test drive the car? Im not crazy about the idea of anyone driving the car just for fun..
3. Anyother places to advertise other than Autotrader.com?

thanks

It sounds like the car has been well maintained under your care.
Aesthetics do play a part in pricing the vehicle which you didn't really mention.

How does the paint look? What color is it? (Other than black or red, it might be harder to sell). What's the condition of the leather? Modifications done to the car (If your car is bone you can get away with the higher end of the price range).

If these conditions are all very good, I'd say your price range is about right.

May want to post a pic or 2 to give everyone a better assessment of the vehicle.

I was at a similar crossroads. Have had the NSX over 4 years, had just had the third child (in the same period), we had 3 cars and none would hold us all, falling 401k, and we are starting to feel cramped in our home.

I just couldn't sell the NSX even though I was only putting 3-4k miles per year on it.

So - sold the other 2 cars on Ebay (great if you are a web developer with lots of good feedback as you can beat the big boys at their own game!), bought a Canadian Odyssey mini van on Ebay and imported it for tons less money then I could buy locally, and made the NSX my daily driver.

Sure it may suck in the St. Louis winters and YES I have put more miles in the last 5 months then I had put on it in the last 15 months - but I am in love with the car all over again. I only wish I would have babied it less and drove it more the last 4 years.

Also - of all the cars I have ever owned the NSX has required the least repairs. Go figure.

Food for thought as you may be able to work out something similarly and not have to kick yourself later.

Good luck in any case...

I'd think twice about selling your NSX if your intention is to purchase stock or real estate. The market hasn't finished hemmorhaging by a long shot, and we are sitting on a real estate bubble. I never regretted selling Compac or Ericcson to buy my NSX. Both have evaporated since '99, but my NSX hasn't depreciated significantly since then. Sell your NSX if cash flow is a problem, but don't sell it to buy stock!
Just my $.02. Good luck.

Your price range is about right.

Things to keep in mind...

a. As with most early NSXs, your car is hardly depreciating at all. Maintenance is up to date. So operating the NSX isn't going to cost you much. The only real costs you're incurring (other than the usual tires, gas, tires, etc) are insurance, and financing costs (consisting of some mix of interest on the part of the car you don't own, and the "opportunity cost" of earnings you're not getting from the money tied up in the part of the car you DO own).

b. Now, it comes down to a matter of whether it's worth it to you to hold onto the car. Let's say it's costing you $4-5K per year in insurance and interest/financing. Does it give you $4-5K worth of pleasure per year? If so, and if you don't really need the money you've got invested in it, keep it. If you need the money or you aren't getting that much pleasure out of it, sell it.

2. do you allow people the ability to test drive the car? Im not crazy about the idea of anyone driving the car just for fun..

Yes, you let them test drive - but you ride in the passenger seat.
