ok error code

Ok guys I have been reading and trying to diagnose an issue. I have been a member a long time but none of my old screen names or passwords seem to work.

I have been deciding on selling my NSX as I cant really drive the NSX much here lately in the past few years as i basically ran and jumped out of my cartilage in my knees.. anyways....

Today i went out to the garage and have never had any issues when trying to hop in and drive, but now it just tries to turn over but never gets that last kick of the switch. The voltage on the battery is fine ( new battery ), bought a new tender to make sure it stayed charge. But never fires up.

So i peeled back the carpet and put a paperclip into the pins to jump it to get a error code. All of the reading i have done says that it should be the CEL to blink the codes. But the only thing that blinks for me is the ABS light,,, it is giving me a LONG LONG LONG Short Short Short Short... Any ideas? It seems like it would be a 3-4 error code, but there is no such code in the manual or OBD codes.

Anyone have any ideas why it is only showing the code on the ABS light and not the CEL light?

Thanks.

I am not exactly sure what' gets that last kick of the switch' means. If it means that the engine cranks over with the key in the start position; but, the engine never fires, then I suggest that a potential problem could be the main FI relay. With the key in the off position, turn the key to the run position (not the start position) and listen carefully for the fuel pump. The fuel pump should run for about 2 seconds as it primes the fuel system and then shut itself off until you start cranking the engine. If you don't hear the fuel pump prime the system then the potential problems could be the main FI relay, the fuel pump, the ECU, a wiring problem. The main FI relay is the easiest / cheapest thing to check first.

When you first turn the key to the run position, does the check engine light come on during power up and then go out? If it does not come on that is a sign that the main relay may be dead. If it comes on and then goes out then the main relay may be OK. It also suggest that the reason you are not getting any codes on the CEL is that there may not be any stored codes in the ECU. There are lots of things that can prevent an engine from starting that do not generate CEL error codes.

I don't have access to my service manuals right no so I can't comment on the ABS error codes. I think the ABS codes may also be academic at this point as ABS problems should not prevent the engine from starting.

Yeah the key is turning over, but it is like it is not getting any spark to initiate the engine running. If that makes sense. The CEL does come on. I am trying to upload a video now, but it is odd. All of my codes are coming through the TCS light... sorry earlier i claimed it was the ABS light.

Here is the video.

I downloaded the manual but i seen no code to match a 3 long 4 Short.. Unless I am reading it wrong.

You don't mention what year your NSX is (unless I missed something), but I have a '91 and in the TCS trouble codes section on page 19-84 of the '91 service manual, code 3-4 is listed as "abnormal VREF (reference voltage) signal.

Hey jazzmann,

Yeah sorry i keep forgetting this profile is not the same as my original one ( Mills_NSX ), but it is a 91'
I removed the Main relay and put a multi-meter to it to see if it had continuity, it seems it does not. I ordered one will be in Thurs.
My bigger issue was the 3-4 code. Low VREF could be due to the fact the Main relay was bad, maybe. I am printing out the flowchart now and will start running through the troubleshooting.
