So I just got my new oil pan gasket in the mail today. One side is smooth, the other side has 2 ridges all the way around. So I assume it's ridges up against the block?

Also, while the pan is down, any other mods I can/should do easily?

Cool thank you. I failed to notice the obvious. Then again, I haven't even taken it out of the package yet. I guess I've just been so used to symetrical engine oil pans on every car i've seen through the years.

Remember, install the gasket DRY, do not use any Hondabond etc. on it.

Larry, in my 95 manual, I clearly remember it showing 4 points where you would use Hondabond. I don't have it here with me but when I replaced mine, I saw the thread that said you should not use Hondabond. But in my manual, I'm pretty sure it was 4 spots on the pan that they recommended Hondabond. I think the point of the Hondabond is to hold the basket in place as you maneuver the pan into place. I didn't use any and with the car on jackstands it's hard to keep the gasket aligned.

I know it is a PITA without the Hondabond, but I have learned that this can act like a lubricant, and can cause weeping later on. I always do them dry and have no issue, but I have taken them apart w/Hondabond and they leak prematurely.

This has been my experience:).

Honda cars love it rough and dry!

Experience is more valuable than the manual, because of this I'm glad I left mine dry. I just wanted to point out that the Hondabond is recommended in the manual but I think it is only to hold the gasket in place when you put the pan back. The four points where they recommended the Hondabond appear to have no impact on helping to seal the gasket.
