I was at Thunderhill raceway over the weekend and discovered oil dripping from several surfaces under my car. It looked like I ran over a puddle of oil and it splashed all over the oil pan, rear cross member, etc. I suspected my problem was a loose oil drain plug, loose dip stick, or a loose oil cooler or sending unit fitting. None of these seemed to be the problem, I was worried something worse was at hand (though my car drove completely normally), and I was questioning if I should still drive the rest of my sessions. I walked over to the Opak Racing guys, who showed up late that day to take their winning DC5 out for some runs. They are the US branch of Spoon Sports, and they've worked on several NSX's. Their lead tech took at look at my engine and in about 3 seconds noticed a valve cover cap nut and grommet had backed out. I didn't know our engines have these potential oil spillers at the top. I was back on the track after a quick grommet swap and making sure my oil level was good (my dipstick reading hardly changed, I lost maybe 8oz of oil and I started with a bit extra). Thanks Opak racing!
