OK, the original filter is no longer available.
Locally for me, zero stock.

Hastings makes a OEM replacement with the same dimentions of the 004 filter.
I am hesitant to use non-ACURA filters.

Is there any place online I can purchase the ACURA 004 filter??

HASTINGS OIL FILTER -- OEM Direct Fit Replacement Lube Spin-on Filter, O.D 3 1/32, Length 3 1/2, I Gasket [1] Included, Replaces Honda 15400-PL2-004, 15400-PL2-005; Baldwin B1422,

You should just add to the already existing post rather than starting a new one. Short answer: if you want Honda labeled filters, use the new shorty one.

I have a long one...... size does matter!

But when the time comes, I'll stick with the shorter one from Honda.

Does anybody use this one:

? Price is around $25, compared to perhaps $10 for the OEM Honda part, but resellers claim nsx fittiment, and also claim "30% increased filtration", apparently as a result of a special filter-shape design.

If the length of the Hastings filter is 3 1/2" as you're indicating here, it isn't the same length as the Honda 004 filter. The 004 is 110mm (4 1/3") long.

The closest match for the Honda 004 oem filter is this one by Beck-Arnley:

Same exact dimensions as the 004. Same hole pattern and heavy gauge metal construction.

1) use the HONDA OEM filter Shorty is fine, if it wasn't Honda would not have approved it for use on the motor. Considering that 2004, and 2005 models are still under factory warranty.

WE CAN BE SURE that honda does not want to replace an NSX motor, due to build up by one of their NEW filters

2) USE a GOOD fully synthetic oil (MOBIL 1 (prefferably), Pennzoil, etc)

And if you still are nervous,

3) Change the oil more often- our manuals show that a scheduled oil change should be every 7,000 miles. Personally I change mine every 2500 because its easy to remember 2500m, 5000m, 7500m, 10,000m, then 12,500 15000 (seea pattern?????) nice even round number-
3000 is easy to miss. 3, 6, 9, 12 , 15, 18, 21 ( not repeatable but if not rocket science)

"How Sludge is Prevented
Additive in the detergent oils 'wash' any contaminant particles off of internal engine parts and hold these particles in suspension until the oil is changed. It's important to understand that these particles are too small to cause engine wear, but they do turn the oil a darker color. The key thing is to change the oil before the oil becomes too saturated with contaminants to hold any more, but color is not an indication of this condition."

Here is a good short website to read through for everyone
pretty honest and non biased- even gives a review on filters, and oils detergents etc.

THANK YOU
just change your oil every 3k and change the filter every time. it will be fine. you will NOT notice ANY difference. jeez.

i guarantee you that there is something going on with your car right now that is more of a concern than having a shorter oil filter.

some of you are getting random oil filters just because they are physically larger? wow.
