Oil cooler gaskets

I didn't read much of failing oil coolers. But did anybody ever open the oil cooler and change the two seals?

Yeah I've done it. Not too hard, just have to remove the big bolt at the top and you can get at the O rings.

Was it necessary or just preventative? I already have the gaskets but another guy has to change them if...

I'm changing mine, since I'm installing a new cooler. It's preventative under the theory that replacing all of the rubber during an engine refresh, due to the age, high temperature and vibration- all damaging to rubber.
