No dumb questions here, especially when talking about engine oil! 5-6 cm (2 inches) is A LOT of extra oil and I guess that it is WAY more than ½ quart that the oil filter takes up…or it was (hopefully) an errant dipstick reading. Before you do anything, try taking your dipstick measurement after you car’s engine has been for an hour and make sure that the car is parked on level ground. Also, remember to pull the dipstick, wipe it off and then take the measurement—this is pretty basic so forgive me if I have insulted your DIY intelligence—just want to save you from the messy job of draining a quart of oil.Good luck and let us know how it turns out,DanO
