Can I switch OEM 16/17 inches rims ( pre 02 rims ) from my OEM 15/16 inches rims
( original NSX rims ) without doing anything on suspension settings ? ( and assuming that I want the same or better handling )

Or will it be necessary to opt for 94 and + NSX suspension settings?

I don't want to mess with my car's handling qualities but I prefer the 16/17 OEM rims.

Some owners also told me that with OEM 7 spoke rimes you get some issues with that more open design that permits more dust to come in the brake calipers???

Thanks in advance for your input...

There is no issue swapping the wheels. I would recommend the 1994 alignment settings, since it will reduce your rear tire wear, regardless of your wheel choice. (in 1994 they changed the rear static toe setting only, I recall total toe reduced by 2mm). This was based on the "Rear Tire Wear" lawsuit.

When I go to the alignment shop the machine is set for this setting based on all year NSX's since, in their computer system all NSX's are to be set to the new spec. It is considered retroactive, at least in the Hunter Alignment Machine computer software. That is not to say they can't set it any way you want it(even original specs), but when they enter "1991 NSX" they get the 1994 specs.

Unless you are tracking your car (and maybe not even then, unless you are at the limits), you will not notice any handling difference, just get a little more life out of your rear tires IMO.

Larry's description is correct, except that it was in 1993, not 1994, that Acura changed the alignment settings and made the retroactive to 1991.

There is no issue with additional brake dust using the newer rims. You are free to switch them with no problems resulting from doing so.

Hey guys,
I have been interested in doing the same conversion. I have '93 and have found no rims which [in my opinion] look better than the 94+ OEM wheels. I have heard that changing to rims with a greaster rolling circumference can disable the traction control. So what's the deal

There is no traction control problem with the '94-01 OEM size tires on a '91-93 NSX.

The traction control works based on the ratio of the outer diameter in front to the outer diameter in the rear (which is about the same as the front-to-rear ratio of the rolling circumference).

The outer diameter of the '94-01 front is 2.37 percent larger than that of the '91-93 front. The outer diameter of the '94-01 rear is 0.57 percent smaller than that of the '91-93 rear. Thus the front-to-back ratio is changing by approximately 2.94 percent. As long as the ratio changes by less than 4-5 percent, TCS will operate properly.

Thanks a bunch for clearing that up for me....I hafta admit that of all the incredibly knowledgeable people posting to this forum you (nsxtacy) consistently offer reliable and valuable information. For my money 'YOU ARE THE MAN' gotta give 'props' when they're due.

Go for it! I got '97+ wheels for my '91 over three years ago and have no issues on the street or the track.

I liked reading in the 94 Acura TSB that if your 94 rims cause the TCS to malfuntion on your 91-93 you should just buy a new 94 TCS computer because "after all you own an NSX".
Or was that a joke from the service dept. guys?

There is no such TSB.
