OEM Rear Valance Removal

Brad,

you must remove the bumper in order to get to the top of the side mounting bolts for the rear lower valance. I will do my best to give step by step instructions on how to remove the rear bumper and if I miss anything, please feel free to add.

1) remove the rear side markers be sliding them forward (toward the front of the car) and pull out. The one sided spring style clip will release the lights.

2) Looking into this tiny side marker hole and looking towards the rear of the car, you will see two small 10mm nuts that hold the rear bumper frame. One will be relatively eye level, and the other will be considerably higher. I used a 1/4" drive socket with a 8"+ extension and a wobbly to get to the upper 10mm nut.

3) NOTE: this step may be negated if you can see this bolt from the bottom of the car, I have the Taitec rear diffusor, so I can't get to this bolt...so you may want to check before you remove the rear wheels and splash guard.

you will need to remove some of the plastic grommets in the rear of the splash guards in the fender. It would be easier if you can get the rear up on jack stands (since I would recommend removing the rear wheels to remove the rear portion of the splash guards) Behind the splash guard, you will find a 10mm bolt that bolts the fender to the bumper cover. (it will be just behind the bottom portion of the splash guard. Unbolt this one outter bolt for each side of the car.

4) looking from under the rear bumper cover, you will see the two aluminum bumper brackets that bolt to the rear of the car. I can't recall if they are 12mm or 14mm nuts, but there will be two in each side of the car (2 one the left and 2 on the right). Unbolt these nuts.

5) Go into the trunk of the car. remove the plastic grommets on the rear panel cover (the carpeting). You will see the two final bolts holding your bumper and rear valance on. They are two (almost brass in color) nuts with rounded heads. Put a blanket on the ground to cover the length of your bumper. This will give you something to lay the bumper on when you remove it.

6) once you remove the rear bumper, you will see several bolts that hold the rear lower valance onto the rear bumper cover. remove these and you are ready to start installing your new diffusor.

good luck Brad!!!

let me know if you have any questions.

Please note:

step 3 was updated. the stock valance owners may be able to simplify this particular step.

sorry, but my car has the Taitec rear diffusor and was going through the steps I did in order to remove the rear bumper.

Sounds like quite a job to just change the rear valance:eek:
Use this direction along with XTNSIVs and you should have it off in 2hr max. Thats how long it took me last night to remove mine.
