Do Honda/Acura offer brake caliper rebuild kit? Basically, it should consist all the seals and gaskets for calipers pistons.

I know there are a lot of supra tt owners bought Toyota rebuild brake rebuild kit for around 16 bucks a pair, and they all claimed that it makes big difference. More responsive and bites better~!

any idea? what would be the part number for that? and how much? for 97+ brakesetup

thanks

You can buy a rebuild kit, but (just like changing the caliper bracket without changing the calipers or rotors) it won't affect the performance of the brakes, and won't make them "bite better". It's usually used for repairs, for example, when the piston boots get melted. If there's nothing wrong with your brakes, you won't benefit by rebuilding them.

If you are looking for better performance from your brakes, the best place to start is by looking into different brake pads. (Also better tires, since your brakes can only stop you as fast as your tires can.) If you are still not satisfied, then you can look into one of the big brake kits which consist of bigger calipers and rotors (and you may need bigger wheels to accommodate them).

Andie Lin at Cobalt Friction can give you great advice (and great prices!) for brake products to fit your particular needs.

Hey nsxtasy bro,

thank you for speedy reply!

well, let's not get into caliper bracket topic again now :)

i ordered 6 spds tranny & 97 brake setup from a memeber here. I figure before i install the brake setup, i might as well replace all the seals.. if the rebuild kits are not that expensive.

i might have to disagree with you regarding to only replace the seals/gaskets/boots when they appeared to be "melted". You cant really see piston seals/gasket inside the calipers; they are wear and tear item. Over time/heat, they will become harden, and will crack soon or later.. which will reduce the "biting" performance.

at this point, i think big brake system is out of my budget range. I like stock NSX, i dont plan on alter too much from stock form.. if anything, i might only add racelogic traction control on it. If i sell my supra tt :(

The main function of the piston boots is to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the inside of the caliper. I suppose that, if the piston boots were melted and the inside of the calipers got dirt and moisture in them, your "performance" would suffer... but if they are intact, replacing them won't make any difference. Of course, it won't hurt anything either (other than parts and labor that might not be necessary).

Incidentally, I have never heard of piston boots melting from age or normal street use, only from driving on the track. It's possible, but I've never run into it...

Mine have melted, and they look nasty! I bought the kit and will do the brakes next month.
