Hey All,
New guy here. Hello! Hope the note below isn't too long to read through.
I'm no electronics guru but I worked as a car a/v installer back in the day (way back). My current problem has got me stumped! Plus i'm no Bose System expert either.
Problems:
1. The sound crackles or maybe it's more a fizzle. Especially during heavy bass notes. The best way I can describe it is.. do you know the sound stereos produce when it's under strain or when the capacitors are not fully charged? It can't produce clean bass notes when it hits hard - it starts to fizzle before the bass is fully delivered. The easy/subtle notes come through fine. (I'm really sorry if i'm doing a terrible job explaining). It almost sounds like when you have a speaker wire shorted to (-) and the amp strains to produce the notes. My guess would be the capacitors in the amp are no longer taking a charge? Its the same symptoms for CD or FM. HOWEVER, after say about 20-30mins of driving the sound returns to full fidelity and clarity. This last part is what's got me baffled in that it sounds fine after a while.
2. My FM stations come through with a ticking/clicking sound especially when I notice i'm getting farther away from the FM source signal.
Questions:
1. Has anyone experienced any of this?
2. What does the center channel in the rear panel do?
3. Are the only amps in the Bose system contained in the door speaker enclosures (all built-in?)? I'm thinking ahead at what exactly I need to replace here.
Parameters:
1. 1991 OEM Bose w/ Alpine 6 disc changer (soon to upgrade to ipod handshake)
2. My internal Climate Control Temp gauge blower just went out. Can't say for sure if the problem started happening before or after or if this is a direct cause. maybe.
