Hello So Cal NSX'ers! It's time for some more Southern California NSX activity! Randy "FuryNSX" has a Mount Palomar (San Diego county) road trip planned on April 25. John "coolnsx" planned a "Labor Day" BBQ for May 3. Way to go guys!

Having organized the January 31 Cars & Coffee NSX marque event, I am trying my hand at my first road trip. So without further ado, here are my plans for organizing this local OC road trip for Saturday, May 30th.

This is a relatively short road trip that begins with an activity (optional) and ends with a social gathering and one more optional activity. The road trip distance totals about 60 miles, a good little run taking us on some of the nicer roads I am familiar with. My intention is to provide a social activity that concludes early while offering some options.

So, let's see how many are interested in going. Here is the quick itinerary summary...

  • Option #1: Meet at Irvine Cars & Coffee at 6:30-7:30AM for a pre-road trip gathering and to join the C&C fun. You can also get your java and something to eat at the coffee kiosk. The breakfast burritos are terrific but tend to sell out early.
  • Option#2: Meet at Irvine Cars & Coffee at 8:30 AM. Park in the Mazda lot taking a left upon entering the display parking lot entrance. This will be our staging area for our road trip.
  • After taking some pics, we begin our road trip at 9:00 AM.
  • Our drive ends at Dana Point Harbor. There is plenty of parking at this beautiful location. Bring your own drinks and food for a picnic lunch and more photo opportunities.
  • If any are interested, we can proceed to "Family Classic Cars", a business that restores classic cars. They have a showroom open to the public and are located nearby in San Jaun Capistrano (about 3 miles away). I have not been here yet and am interested in checking it out.

Gathering point: Cars and Coffee (Ford headquarters building parking lot) - 7905 Gateway Blvd, Irvine

From there, we make a loop using Santiago Canyon Road and take Laguna Canyon Road to the 73 south to our destination at Dana Point harbor. This route avoids any tolls. I was not able to post a map. I am a little surprised at the lack of interest in this road trip. I know it is 4 weeks away yet, but I would have expected more to respond. However, another event is scheduled for Sunday, May 31. The Supra guys are having a lunch meet followed by a combined road trip to Mt. Baldy.

See the following thread for details: 05/31/09 - Chino Hills meet, eat, and cruise

So as of today, please consider this road trip on hold. Unless I head up to Buttonwillow that weekend, I'm planning on attending this "Supra" event. Looks like there will be some NSX'ers attending as well. Police escort? No tickets!? Magazine coverage? Sounds good.
